02/24/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Like his namesake (Jason Stackhouse, the dreamboat of HBO’s True Blood), Stackhouse is a beautiful Southern gentleman who loves to show affection and even give “hugs!” Stackhouse, a Carolina dog (also known as the American Dingo) – hound mix, is a very unique pup– especially for this far up north. He has one blue eye and one brown eye, is great on the leash, and has a very strong nose. I’ll bet he could be trained to play hide and seek or find treats and toys all over your apartment. Sweet and affectionate, Stackhouse seems like a calm and good-natured pup. Please come and visit this one-of-a-kind looker at the Brooklyn ACC today!
02/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Stackhouse came to us as a stray; so we don’t have any other behavioral information other than what has been observed in the shelter. He had very loose and soft body language when entering the behavior room. He was very interested in interacting with the assessor when in the room jumping up on the assessor and laying his head on the assessor’s lap. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining his soft body language. He followed the assessor at the end of the leash with soft body language during the tag interaction, and jumped up on the assessor at the end. He proved easy to handle when engaging with the toy item relinquishing it to the assessor with soft body language. The behavior department believes that Stackhouse can go to an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Stackhouse greets with a soft, wiggly body. Once he enters the pen he becomes a little nervous, raising his hackles and avoid direct contact with the helper dog. He does demonstrate some play signals but immediately retreats when play is solicited by the helper dog.
