03/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Squiggle is only 5 months old and too young for a SAFER to be scored accurately. However, the Behavior Department is very concerned with the behavior she displayed in playgroup . We cannot determine if this is the result of, or combination of, barrier frustration or escalation due to over-arousal. Due to this, we recommend that Squiggle be placed with a New Hope Partner that can provide her with proper impulse control building, manage her penchant to over-arousal and continue to socialize her with other dogs in a safe manner. Squiggle initially was playful with another dog (possibly her sibling), engaging in normal puppy play such as chase play, bounces and chest bumps and has good bite inhibition. She did need to be slowed down a few times by the handler but responded immediately and reset. When a third dog was introduced to the group, Squiggle became extremely aroused- jumping up on the fence, barking and lunging. She was leashed prior to meeting the new dog due to her high energy and arousal. Once inside the pen, Squiggle rushed the new dog, lunging and leaping onto her flank and neck while making multiple biting gestures to his neck and ears. She did not actually bite nor cause any scratches. Squiggle was pulled off him and given a chance to calm and allowed one more opportunity to greet. She immediately did the same behavior and was removed from the pen.
03/13/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Squiggle enters the pen with a tucked body and tail. She is very nervous and avoids interacting with the helper dog. It appears that she may be under-socialized around other dogs but does offer appropriate corrections- muzzle punches and face nips- to increase distance between herself and the other dog. 3/14 update: Squiggle initially was playful with another dog (possibly her sibling), engaging in normal puppy play such as chase play, bounces and chest bumps and has good bite inhibition.
