10/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray Other notes: Police reported Spricket was lunging/growling at them. Upon intake he was lunging in his carrier, unable to be safely handled. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/23/16 Summary: Spricket was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, growling, charging through the kennel and lunges at the rope. He did not show any social behavior; once he was out of the kennel he stands tall and makes direct eye contact. The behavior team decided to place him back in his kennel as he was difficult to handle. Due to the behavior demonstrated in shelter, the behavior department believes Spricket is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER. Spricket would benefit best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on his behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. PLAYGROUP: 10/20: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Spricket approaches and offers brief sniffs, then otherwise keeps to himself. 10/21: Spricket greets politely and is interested but is not solicited play, so eventually he begins to explore the yard. 10/22: Spricket greets politley but is more interested in dogs/handlers in adjacent pens and will only pay attention to them. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/19/16 During his initial medical exam, Spricket displayed defensive behavior and would not allow handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13)(See potential challenges) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Spricket has attempted to snap multiple times during his stay at our care centers, for this reason, we believe Spricket would benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess this behavior in a stable environment.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Spricket has displayed fearful/defensive behavior during his stay at our care centers, tolerating very minimal handling. It is recommended that Spricket be allowed a proper time to decompress to aid in acclimating him to a new environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Spricket to new and unfamiliar situations.)
10/20/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Spricket arrived without history available on his previous interactions with other dogs. The behavior department feels that based on observation made in our care, Spricket would benefit from, slow, positive introductions with any dogs that are unfamiliar to him. 10/20: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Spricket approaches and offers brief sniffs, then otherwise keeps to himself. 10/21: Spricket greets politely and is interested but is not solicited play, so eventually he begins to explore the yard. 10/22: Spricket greets politley but is more interested in dogs/handlers in adjacent pens and will only pay attention to them. 10/23: Spricket is cautious, is tense when approached, then wanders away. He is tolerant however, when jumped on by a more playful dog.
