02/21/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: He must have been an adorable little rascal and would have stayed that way if he had received the care any “man’s best friend” should receive…Instead, Spot was abandoned, tied up in front of his finder’s home…And in such awful shape….Old and new sores cover his legs and his nose and ears are colonized by an undetermined growth…We are not sure of his hearing but there might be something left…He is much too thin, food might have been scarce in his former life. Still, there is something quite attractive in this bachelor’s looks and ways… I love his bright oreo coat and his calm manners. He glances gently at me, get leashed easily and walks nicely around the block, marking his way as he is an intact male. Other dogs, big and small are met. Spot seems fine with them. He can sit on command and enjoys very much the treats I present to him. He poses his head in my lap for a good scratch. Spot is a very friendly character. He is quite welcoming too when another volunteer enters our pen to say hello. Spot needs good basic care and the eye of a veterinarian, a caring home and the love of a master. He is I truly believe a very nice chap, worth the investment. Spot will give back 100% in loyalty and unconditional love. Spot is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming …of you
02/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Spot walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Spot was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys. Spot did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Spot greets briefly, roams, then postures to mount.
02/18/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leahs with other dogs, Spot greets briefly, roams, then postures to mount. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction for Spot to ensure compatibility with a resident dog. He arrived into our care as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with dogs are unknown.
