Is a Stray – Was Tied Up Describe his behavior: My observations when meeting spirit for the first time as a stranger: Spirit (A1077388) walks calm on the leash, allowed petting throughout her body, face remained relaxed while petting, a lot of hand licking, appears to know the “give paw” command and “sit” command and Spirit jumped into my vehicle on her own.

06/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE

Due to Spirit’s behavior in playgroup (please see GROUPBEAHVIOR entry), the Behavior Department feels that Spirit is suitable for an experienced adopter who can manage her discomfort around other dogs. SAFER 6/15/16: Spirit came into the shelter as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Spirit came into the assessment room calm and friendly, she was social towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Spirit was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Spirit was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Spirit appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low, a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 2 Dog quickly pulls back. Toy:minimal interest, Dog smells, then turns away.

Spirit was surrendered as a stray so her past behavior around dogs is unknown. 6/16: Spirit lip curled and growled when meeting the greeter dog through the gate. She was muzzled before being allowed into the pen. Once in the pen, she displayed stiff body language when the other dog greeted her. The play session ended when she became occupied with the muzzle.

Scanned negative BARH – bouncy, attention seeking, allows all handling F~ 2 years Ears, eyes, nose, throat clear Teeth stained Mild alopcia scattered across face. Tends to lie with back legs splayed. Does not seem in pain. Coat clean – no flea dirt or parasites noted Ambx4 NOSF
