MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT
12/11/2016 Exam Type BEHAVIORPART2 – Medical Rating is 3 C – MAJOR CONDITIONS , Behavior Rating is NH ONLY, LBS.
RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Spikey may benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue partner who can further assess his behavior in a home environment.) Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control (It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training is recommended.) _X_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition (Decreasing the force of the mouth as well as the frequency of mouthing, in this order is recommended by using force-free, reward based training as well to reinforce a soft appropriate mouth and redirect hard inappropriate mouthing onto toys.) _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression _X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration (During his stay at our care centers, Spikey has displayed a low threshold for on leash reactivity; actively lunging, growling and hard barking at passing dogs. Appropriate and safe management is recommended when attempting to modify this undesired behavior.)

12/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Spikey display a high amount of energy and did not stay still. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/5/16 Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 3. Dog becomes quickly over aroused, jumps up on Assessor mouthing Assessor’s arm. Item is stopped. Summary: Spikey appears to display a low threshold for arousal with the potential to escalate; during his assessment he rushed the assessor when attempting to initiate play, hard mouthing and taking a while to settle and fully recover. Because of the intensity of reaction in conjunction with the direct contact made, the behavior department believes Spikey may benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue partner who can further assess his behavior in a more stable environment. We cannot be certain if any other behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. PLAYGROUP: 12/9: While being walked on a leash Spikey exhibits concerning reactivity toward large and small dogs. When he sees another large dog he gets low to the ground and stalks; then, once they’ve passed, he begins lunging, growling and barking. When Spikey sees a smaller dog he exhibits a similar response but with more intensity and begins thrashing around. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/3/16 During his initial medical exam Spikey allowed handling but displayed a high amount of energy.
