10/17/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Altered, Owner Surrender Previously lived with: Unknown Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Unknown FG/RG: Unknown Bite history: Unknown Housetrained: Unknown Energy level/descriptors: Unknown Other notes: Previous owner stated that Spike would not allow himself to be touched or handled and would snap at family members. Once at the shelter, he was lunging at the kennel. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/17/2016 Toy: 1. Minimal interest Summary: Due to snapping upon collaring, Spike is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. It should be noted that Spike is severely matted and this could be contributing to why he is so sensitive to touch. Spike would benefit best from placement with a New Hope placement partner who can appropriately meet his needs and assess behavior in a stable environment. PLAYGROUP: Summary MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/15/16 During his initial medical examination, Spike tolerated minimal handling; attempting to snap/lunge at handlers multiple times. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13)(See potential challenges) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Spike has attempted to snap multiple times during his stay at our care centers, for this reason, we believe Spike would benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess this behavior in a stable environment.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Spike has displayed fearful/defensive behavior during his stay at our care centers, tolerating very minimal handling; any form of direct touch may result in a fearful bite. It is recommended that Spike be allowed a proper time to decompress to aid in acclimating him to a new environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Shadow to new and unfamiliar situations.)
