2/22: Spike is not eating dog food. Vet tech1086 reports she will eat baby food and minced Vienna sausages when offered. Vet 1172 confirmed one meal daily for three days from medical.
Profile
Basic Information:
Spike is a white and black male fifteen year old chihuahua. He was surrendered by his owner due to personal problems. He is dscribed as independent, mellow, and fearful. He was with his owner for almost fifteen years.
Socialization:
Spike has lived with three adults and one older child. Around strangers Spike is described as fearful and will generally bark and retreat; he does not engage in play. Around children he is described as respectful towards the child in the home, but will bark at other children. He lived with another small breed dog and is described as relaxed and affectionate, owner stated they will engage in gentle play. Spike has not been around cats.
Behavior:
Spike will growl when his food is touched while eating but owner stated he will not stop or bite if they get closer. Spike will bark when bathed but allow bathing. When a stranger approaches his home Spike will bark and continue to bark once the visitor is in the home.
For a new family to know:
Spike is housetrained and is used to leashed walks twice a day. He will pull lightly while on leash. Owner stated due to his age he has been urinating more frequently in the home. His activity level is described as low, owner stated he likes to sleep and lounge around the home. When home he tends to stay in a favorite spot and has been kept only indoors. He eats wet and dry food Beneful brand and is free fed. His favorite treat is bacon strips.
Upon intake Spike was calm and had a loose body, he allowed all handling. Counselor was able to collar, scan (negative) and photograph.
