A volunteer writes:

I call Spencer my ‘marshmallow dog’, he’s soft, smushy and sweet as can be and just like the candy, I can’t get enough of him! A wonderfully well-rounded pet and the perfect combination of smarts and snuggles, he brings new meaning to the words good dog and his knowledge of commands, great resource sharing skills and super social personality would be a cozy fit for almost any home. Spencer arrived at the Care Center with his identically friendly brother, Justice (A1113537), and both boys received rave reviews from their former family. We’re told he gets along fabulously with strangers and kids alike, is easy on leash, relaxed with all handling (including baths!), enjoys playing with his brother and revels in visits to the dog park too. He’s said to be both house and crate trained and is so well-versed in come, sit and stay commands–even when sitting on a park bench–that our photo shoot went like an absolute breeze. A date with Spencer means hugs and kisses galore, treats and toys mouthed with a soft touch and some equally gentle how-do-you-dos when greeting passing dogs and not surprisingly, he rocked his behavior assessment with perfect scores across the board. The marshmallow of love is ready to go home sweet home with one very lucky family so treat yourself by signing up for a snuggle session today. One hug from Spencer and I guarantee you’ll never want to let him go!

PROFILE: 05/29/17 13:30

Spencer is friendly and outgoing towards strangers. He has spent time around toddlers and is relaxed and playful with them. He plays either exuberantly or gently with both adults and children based on how they are playing with him. He lives with his brother-dog (another Pitbull) and spends time at the dog park with other dogs who he is relaxed and playful with. He has never spent time around cats so it’s unknown how he would react. He has never bitten another animal or human.

Spencer isn’t bothered during loud noises such as fireworks. He allows his owner to take away his food bowl and treats and thinks his owner is trying to play when it’s a toy being taken away. He isn’t bothered when pulled off of furniture. He will struggle when restrained from something he wants and will wake up ready to play when awoken from his slumber. He tolerates baths, brushing, and nail trimming. When someone unfamiliar approaches his home or humans he’s friendly.

Spencer is friendly, affectionate, playful, and excitable. He has a medium activity level and when ready to play enjoys fetch with balls, chewing on bones, and tugging on rope. When his owner is home, he sits in his favorite spot on his bed in the corner of the room by the window. He’s kept mostly indoors and sleeps on his owner’s bed. He is very house-trained and only goes potty outside on the cement or dirt. He will go through the garbage when left home alone for too long and is crate-trained. He knows sit, come, and stay. For exercise, Spencer goes to the dog park and enjoys both slow and brisk walks on-leash where he will sometimes pull lightly. He eats Wellness dry food, 1 and a half cups, twice a day. He loves all types of food.

On intake, Spencer had a waggy tail and a loose body. He allowed all handling.

ENERGY LEVEL:

Spencer’s previous owner described him as having a medium level of activity.
