Summary (1):: Spaz is social around other female dogs. He appropriately greets them, and can be sexually motivated at times, but spends most of his session exploring the yard. Spaz was surrender as a stray with another dog, but no further information was provided. The Behavior Department recommends that Spaz be placed in a home with resident dogs that are well socialized and matches his calm sociability. Al introductions should be done slowly and under supervision. 1/24: When off leash at the Care Centers, Spaz greets with a neutral posture. He explores the pens, and occasionally checking in with the other dog. He tolerates her muzzle greets, and playful attention getting gestures. 1/27: Spaz is sexually motivated; genital licking and sniffing. Handlers are able to redirect his attention. 1/30: Spaz rushes into the pen when the door is opened, and moves past the other dog to explore the pens. He eventually greets her, and briefly displays sexually motivated behaviors before continuing to investigate the pens.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Potential challenges: : Anxiety
Potential challenges comments:: Anxiety: Spaz has shown some signs of potential anxiety in the care center, vocalizing (whining, barking) continually through the SAFER and through play sessions outside. This behavior was not reported at intake, and we have no known history on Spaz, so we cannot be certain whether similar behavior will be seen in a future home environment.
