A volunteer writes:
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me…The lyrics to one of my favorite songs embody all the hopes I have for our own Dawn and I dream that one day soon she can complete them with that last beautiful line ‘and I’m feelin’ good’. That day isn’t here yet and after losing her beloved family in an eviction, she’s feeling a bit lost and lonely, unsure of her place in the unfamiliar world of the Care Center. Free in a backyard pen Dawn wanders aimlessly but is so gentle and tolerant when I pet her, kiss her and hug her for photos that it’s easy to see how she lived in harmony with small children, 2 cats and a little Shih Tzu. Her former owners tell us they all played together and she even slept curled up with the other animals–how cute is that?!! She walks well on leash and seems quite house trained but isn’t interested in the treats or toys I offer and while we just stick to strolling, she’s said to have had plenty of playful energy at home and enjoyed running and jumping around with her two- and four-legged siblings, though she could be a bit too rough for the toddler of the house. Dawn has met many dogs at the Care Center with friendly good manners and soft tail wags but did not get along so well with large females in her former life so a home with only small dogs, big boys or cats would be best for this sweet young girl and of course, kids of all ages are welcome too! Dawn is very sweet

and she’s still searching for the steady, safe, loving and dog-savvy forever family she deserves, will yours be the one to bring laughter back to Dawn’s lonely eyes and set her heart singing once more?

If you are local to the Tri-State, New England, and the general Northeast United States area, and you are SERIOUS about adopting or fostering one of the animals at NYC ACC, please read our MUST READ section for instructions, or email helpdogs@urgentpodr.org. Our experienced volunteers will do their best to guide you through the process.

* We highly discourage everyone from trusting strangers that send them Facebook messages, offering help, for it has ended in truly tragic events.*
