09/02/16 13:03 Basic Information Sparky is a 12 year old unaltered Chihuahua mix. He came to the home as a puppy and is being surrender because of a divorce and personal problems. Sparky visited the vet 2 years ago and was reported to be in good health but recently he has started to lose weight. Socialization: Sparky is shy around strangers for the first few minutes but will warm up and sniff the person’s feet and allow them to pet and pick him up. He was raised with a child since the child was 8 years old. He has not spent time with children in his older years. He does not play as much as he used to due to his age but when he does he is gentle. He spends most of his time lying around the home. He has been the only pet his whole life. When dogs outside approach him; he will bark but does not pull on the leash. He ignores cats he sees outside. Behavior: Sparky has never bitten or snapped at a person or another animal. He is not bothered by loud noises such as, fireworks or thunder. He is not bothered when someone touches or removes his food, when bathed, brushed, or woken up from sleep. When his family takes away his bones, his body tenses up but he will not growl or snap. He will allow you to remove the bone. He thinks people are playing when they take away his toys. He enjoys being held and pet. The owner has never witnessed Sparky have his nails trimmed but the vet says they have to muzzle him. When people knock on the door he will bark but is friendly when they come inside. For a New Family to Know: Sparky is described as friendly, affectionate, mellow, and independent. He has a low activity level. The owner likes how mellow Sparky is. When family is home he tends to lie in his favorite spots. He does not play with toys much but sometimes he will play fetch will rolled up socks. He is kept mostly indoors and is walked outside on a leash at least twice a day. He was trained to use the bathroom on wee wee pads in the bathroom but he recently started to urinate behind the couch (he has not seen a vet for this). He eats Beneful dry dog food twice a day. He is not crate trained. He knows the command sit. Admissions Behavior: Sparky sat under the chair his owner was sitting. When the owner left the counselor crouched next to the chair and spoke softly to Sparky. He walked slowly to the counselor with his tail tucked to his stomach. He allowed the counselor to pet him, scan for microchip (-), collar, and pick him up for photos.

The owner describes Sparky as friendly, affectionate, mellow, and independent. According to the owner Sparky is house trained with wee-wee pads, has a low activity level. At intake it was reported Sparky was sitting next to the owner with his body low to the ground and his tail tucked, he did allowed all handling. Sparky was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Sparky was easy to handle when engaged with the item.
