Behavior:
Sparkle came into our center on 3/4/2016 after being left tied to a pole. She was friendly and allowed all handling during her initial medical exam. Sparkle walked nicely on leash for her relief walk, no pulling. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands during Look item, mouth closed. Sparkle turned her head towards assessor’s hand to investigate during Sensitivity item, mouth closed, ears back. She was distracted and focused on the exit during Tag game. Sparkle licked her lips at positioning of Squeeze item, she did not pull her paw back on first attempt, gently pulled back with body a bit tense on second Squeeze attempt. She showed minimal interest in Toy. Sparkle approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, ears and tail neutral. The Behavior Team feels Sparkle would do well with an Experienced adopter. She may benefit initially from a calm, quiet, structured environment so she can adjust to her new home.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, mouth closed. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, mouth closed, ears back
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, focused on exit.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, lip lick. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back.
Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently pulls back, body a bit tense.
Toy 1. No interest.
Group Behavior:
When off leash with other dogs, Sparkle greets the other dogs with a slow, soft approach. She exchanges sniffs and then mostly explores her surroundings.
3/9 update: Sparkle solicits play with two other dogs and is tolerant of a pushy male’s attempts to mount but does not correct him.
