A volunteer writes: Looking for a proven family dog? A dog who slept with the four year old child at night? A dog who snuggled next to his family, on a lap, while watching TV? A dog who loves getting a bath, doesn’t guard his stuff, loves car rides, is housetrained, never barked, is well behaved when left home alone, and is great with all people? Well, stop looking, you’ve found him! Surrendered to our care due to moving issues, Bleu comes with an outstanding resume of a wonderful family dog. He’s gorgeous, well fed, nicely social, loved playing with a toy and even brought it to me to play with him. Paws in my lap for hugs and kisses, his gorgeous amber eyes meet mine softly. In group play Bleu was initially shy but warmed up quickly offering play bows to the helper dog and engaging in bouts of soft play. He’s an awesome dog who was much loved by his previous family and it shows. Bleu is looking for a new family to love and take care of and we’re rooting for him to find them quickly. If you’re still reading this and not rushing over to meet Bleu you’re missing out. Do it today!

02/03/16 17:22 Spalding is a 2 year old male American Staffordshire Terrier / American Pit Bull Terrier mix. He was brought to ACC as a stray. A family adopted him but had to return him the following day due to landlord conflict. Spalding’s family loved him. They describe him as friendly, affectionate, playful, and high energy. He’s friendly with new people and plays exuberantly. His bonded with a teenage boy in his family. He followed him everywhere and slept cuddled with him at night. When an adult male was sitting on the couch, he snuggled into his lap and rested while he watched TV. He stands up and gives hugs, putting his front legs around someone while he leans into them with his head. He didn’t bite anyone. Spalding’s family reports that he stuck his head out the window and enjoyed his car ride home. He stayed with them in their home and they took him outside for walks. He didn’t have any potty accidents in the house. He pottied outside around trees. He ate dry Science Diet food. He sat and lied down when asked. He never barked and was quiet and calm inside. Spalding was left home alone in a bedroom for 8 hours today and was well-behaved. Spalding had a soft body and open mouth while we pet him, scanned him (+), and collared him. When we approached each other and while we talked to and pet him, his tail and butt wagged. He stood up and leaned against us while we pet him. While I worked at the computer, he lied down next to my feet and was quiet.
01/30/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Sexy, sultry Spalding… He has “bedroom” eyes, a gorgeous slate gray coat and is the perfect weight for his size. Friendly, energetic and fun, he’s playful, active and seems to love other dogs. In a backyard pen he ran from side to side play bowing to other dogs and in group greets and bounces. Spalding loved playing with a plush toy running around the pen with abandon. He pulls hard on the leash so a harness and/or some leash training will help. Spalding greets life with enthusiasm and energy and is looking for his human soulmate. He’d love an active family in which lots of exercise, playtime, and love are on the daily agenda. He’s a big boy with a big personality and everything he does he does with enthusiasm. He told me he’d love an active home who also appreciates lots of snuggles, so if that describes you, ask to meet him today.
01/27/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE

Spalding pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Spalding followed the assessor at the end of the leash during the tag test with a calm and relaxed body language. He took the toy away but had soft body language. Spalding did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, neutral wagging tail, open mouth. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. 01/26/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Spalding is loose and polite when greeting and does solicit play, but he will eventually try to mount (he is currently unaltered). He entered the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. He has not yet been introduced to a male, but he does greet them well (loose body, wagging tail and an occasional bow). Based on these observations the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing him into a home with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Spalding greets, offers a few bounces, then eventually postures to mount the female greeter. 1/28 update: Spalding is sexually motivated but will play when solicited; with the intent to mount. 1/30 update: Spalding offers bows and pushes toward the helper dog. He may attempt to mount but is more interested in play.

He displayed high energy and movement during Sensitivity item, leaning away from assessor and into assessor’s hand, but accepted the touch with soft body. He ran and jumped up on to assessor during Tag game, grabbing leash mid game. Bleu did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, mouthing assessor’s hand with no pressure. He took Toy away with a loose body. When off leash with other dogs, Bleu enters the pen and is tense and only briefly sniffs the helper dog. He quickly warms up, however, and begins to run through the pen and offer play bows when near the helper dog. The Behavior Team feels Bleu would do well with an Average adopter.
