PROFILE:
Basic:
Soy is a 10 year old neutered Shar Pei. His owner got him from the Dominican Republic. His family has to surrender him because they have developed allergies. He has no health problems or injuries. The last time he was at the vet was under a year ago. He has been living part-time with his owner’s mother in law for a while.
Socialization:
Around strangers Soy is shy for a few minutes. He has spent time with a child, aged 2 years. He is relaxed and playful with him. He plays gently with adults and children. He has lived with another dog, Luli, who is a 10 year old Pomeranian. They have lived together their whole lives. They are relaxed and respectful of each other. Soy is getting older so he doesn’t play much with other dogs, but when he does he is gentle. Soy has lived with cats in the home and is relaxed/respectful of them. He hasn’t been around any other animals. He has never bitten anyone or another animal.
Behavior:
Soy is, in general, well-behaved. During storms/fireworks, Soy gets nervous. However, at the vet, Soy needs a sedative to be examined, he gets a little too stressed out. Soy isn’t bothered when someone touches his food while he is eating/takes chews, bones, or toys away/is pushed off furniture/is held or restrained/gets a bath/gets brushed/when someone unfamiliar approaches his house or family member. Soy is afraid to get his nails trimmed and gets it done at the vet.
For new family:
Soy is described as affectionate, shy, independent and mellow. His energy level is medium. His owners love that he is affectionate and good with the family. He loves to go out for walks. At home, he follows his owners around, or stays in the same room. He likes to play with squeaky toys and chew bones. He doesn’t like to play games. He has been kept mostly indoors. He sleeps in a little bed that is next to Luli’s bed. He eats Iams/Beneful dry food twice a day. He is very housetrained and never has accidents at home. He goes potty on the grass. He is well-behaved when left alone. He has never been crate trained. He knows “Sit” and “Come” and comes to his name. For exercise he likes brisk walks off leash and being in off-leash dog parks. On leash, he pulls lightly. He has never been off leash in and unfenced area

Our experienced volunteers will do their best to guide you through the process. * We highly discourage everyone from trusting strangers that send them Facebook messages, offering help, for it has ended in truly tragic events.* For more info on behavior codes and ratings, please click here: http://information.urgentpodr.org/acc-placement-status-descriptions.
