07/07/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/07/17 16:13 Basic Information: Sophie is a 4 year old female that has no current or previous medical issues that the owner is aware of. Owner had Sophie for almost 3 and half years but had to surrender due to personal problems. Socialization: According to the owner Sophie is friendly and plays gently with adults. She has been around children ages 4 and 13 on a daily basis and was always relaxed and respectful around them. Owner had another dog in the home that is Sophie’s son and stated that Sophie and Pooch got along great together and were always respectful around one another. Owner has never tried to bring Sophie around any other dogs. Owner also had 2 male cats in the home and stated that Sophie was always relaxed and respectful around both animals. She does not have a bite history. Behavior: When there are fireworks or thunderstorms outside, Sophie will pace around the room and bark. She is not bothered when someone takes away her food, treats or toys, being pushed or furniture, being held or restrained, being disturbed while sleeping, being given a bath, having her nails trimmed or if someone brushed her coat. When unfamiliar people would approach the home or yard, Sophie will bark. For a New Family to Know: Sophie is described as friendly, affectionate, playful and excitable. She has a high activity level and loves to play with balls and rope toys. In the home, she liked to stay in her favorite spot or play with the owner’s other dog. Sophie was kept mostly indoors and is very house trained. She was fed both wet and dry food brand Pedigree in the home. When Sophie was left alone in the home or yard, she was always well behaved. Owner has never tried to crate train her so behavior is unknown. She knows the cues sit, come, high five, down and don’t touch. For exercise, she was taken on brisk walks on the leash or be let out in the yard to play. When on leash, Sophie tends to pull very hard. Owner was able to walk her off leash and stated that Sophie would stay by owner’s side. Behavior during intake: Sophie had a loose and wiggly body and was jumping all over counselor. Counselor was able to scan for a mc and take a picture without any issues but was unable to collar due to Sophie being too hyper.

She was unable to be collared due to high energy and movement. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Date of initial 7/7/2017 During her initial medical exam, Sophie was mostly social though became tense at times, allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially in the behavior outlined below) Potential challenges:? _X_Strength/leash pulling – Sophie is a strong dog with the capability to pull over an average adopter. Her adopter must be prepared and able to handle a dog of this size and strength. It is recommended that she be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which helps diminish her strength through leverage, and that she be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash.

When off leash with other dogs, Sophie was only around her son today. When first greeting, both dogs were very excited and instantly began playing rough.
