04/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Sofi is the kind of gal that lingers on your mind long after you’ve parted ways. For whatever reason she can be reactive to certain people in her cage, so she may need a slow approach, but if you are in her good graces she is by far the sweetest company! She can be a little shy at first, but mostly seems unsure of her situation. She keeps her tail low and quickly wags it when I talk to her and always maintains very soft eye contact. She seems very housebroken, doesn’t pull on leash, and is crazy for treats (but takes them politely). She is a superstar when it comes to giving paws, high-fives, and double-high-fives –so cute! One of her mammary glands bothers her, but when she’s in the mood she loves to play with toys and easily lets me take them from her mouth if we’re playing fetch. She is very quietly affectionate — resting her head on my lap and moving closer when I stop petting her. She has shown me a very soft personality and incredibly gentle demeanor, but I’m sure there are many more sides of Sofi to know and love — maybe you’ll be the one to get to know them! Please ask to meet her at Brooklyn ACC.
04/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sofi came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Sofi was tense and nervous but she allowed all handling. During SAFER Sofi came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Sofi was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Sofi was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Sofi appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: Sofi greets with a low tail but soft body. When the other dog enters the pen she becomes uncomfortable when he begins to approach her face. She eventually becomes assertive and attempts to mounts but responds well to human interruptions. 4/11 update: Sofi has begun to deteriorate in the kennel environment. She remains social and appropriate outside, but she is frequently now curled up in her kennel, trembling, when approached, and often growls. She does not offer this behavior to every visitor, but it is consistent enough that we cannot place her into our adoptions room. The stress of the shelter appears to be overwhelming, so it is in Sofi’s best interest to move into a stable home environment quickly.
04/03/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Sofi approaches and greets with a soft, loose body. When she enters the pen however, she sniffs the muzzle of the other dog, circles him and mounts while growling. The interaction is ended. Update 4/7: Sofi greets with a low tail but soft body. When the other dog enters the pen she becomes uncomfortable when he begins to approach her face. She eventually becomes assertive and attempts to mounts but responds well to human interruptions.
