05/14/17 18:08 During intake all snow wanted to do was play. He was very exuberant and was licking and jumping all over the counselor. He allowed the counselor to collar, et, and take his picture with no problems.
05/21/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I dare anyone not to melt when Snow showcases his underbite. He is soft like a puppy, has extra skin on his neck meant just for mushing, and is just impossibly cute! And that mug is backed by a fun, goofy, sweet personality. He loves toys, jumps up for attention, and has done well with other dogs in our playgroups. He isn’t bad on leash, seems housebroken, and knows “sit” (but also knows he can manage to get treats just with his begging face!). He wags his tail when I talk to him, loves butt scratches, and is destined to be the center of attention wherever he goes. Come put Snow in your forecast and have warm fuzzy feelings all year round!
05/17/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 5/14/17 Unaltered Male, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Snow was very exuberant and playful, he allowed all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 5/17/17 Look:2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity:1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins but he slowly de-escalates. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1.. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Snow was playful and social towards the assessor. PLAYGROUP: Snow was brought in as a stray so his past behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the Care Center, Snow greets a female dog with a soft and loose body and is slightly sexually motivated engaging in cooperative play but does not attempt to mount. He also was introduced to a male dog and after exchanging sniffs; Snow avoids any further interaction, and moves to an adjacent pen. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/14/17: During his medical examination, Snow didn’t like his face touched. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Snow so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No young children (under 5)-Due to Snow size, strength and rough play with the leash, we advise against a home with young children at this time. Potential challenges: _X_Social hyper-arousal-Dog has displayed low threshold for arousal, slowly de-escalating. (Jumps at the leash to play tug-a-war.) Immediate intervention and consultation with a qualified veterinary behaviorist/professional trainer is strongly recommended to aid in addressing this issue to prevent further behavioral concerns that may appear in the future if not treated right away. We recommend only force-free, reward based training when introducing or exposing Tetris to new and unfamiliar situations.
05/15/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash at the Care Center, Snow mostly keeps to himself in a group of calm male and female dogs. Snow was brought in as a stray so his past behavior around other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Snow be placed with dogs that match his calm sociability. 5/15: Snow greets a female dog with a soft and loose body and is slightly sexually motivated engaging in cooperative play but does not attempt to mount. He also was introduced to a male dog and after exchanging sniffs; Snow avoids any further interaction, and moves to an adjacent pen. 5/16-5/18: Snow mostly keeps to himself in a group of calm male and female dogs.
