01/04/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/04/17 19:49 Snow seems to be a white Staffordshire terrier male. He was brought in by a family member of owner but were unsure of his past behavior. Snow was receptive to leashing, scanning, and intake photo. Snow was pulling very hard on leash. He became very timid and body language changed during restraint for vaccinations
01/07/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A big bulky boy in a white coat (thus named Snow), clearly fed with love, is ready to come out for a walk. He didn’t want a coat and I could hear him thinking, ‘hey lady, they didn’t name me Snow for nothing — I don’t mind the snow’. So, me bundled up, and Snow coatless, we head outside where Snow goes potty right away, and off we go. Ignoring small dogs we pass, and wagging his tail at the larger ones, when in group he enjoys running play with both males and females. In the outside pen, he runs to greet a dog through the gate, tail wagging hard, wanting to play. It was my first date with Snow, and although he’s still a bit shy, he eagerly came to me, paws in my lap for some snuggling. Soft kisses reinforce our friendship, and each time I called him to me he came running to put his head in my lap. A big bruiser of a boy with a gentle soul and soft heart, Snow will appreciate a home in which he can relax on his own timetable and love his new person. I doubt it will take long at all.
01/06/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None Unaltered, stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 1/6/2017 Look: 2. Dog’s body posture is a bit tense, whale eye, his tail is low and not moving, lip lick. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, lip lick, trembling, body a bit tense Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, focused on other stimuli Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Flank squeeze 1/ 2: 2 Dog is focused on other stimuli, sniffing assessor’s pants. No response to both Flank Squeezes. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Summary: Snow was focused on exit door, stress yawning. He was tense and uncomfortable with up-close tactile handling. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: When off leash with male and female dogs Snow engages in some running play when solicited then focuses solely on mounting. He will continue to attempt to mount when correction is offered. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/5/17 During his initial medical examination Snow was nervous but allowed handling. He sought comfort from his human handlers. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter, adult-only home _X_No children (under 13): Snow became visibly tense and uncomfortable with up close handling and movement. He gave clear communication through whale eye and lip licking, trembling and tense body. But due to this reaction to being handled by new people, we feel at this time that he would be most comfortable in an adult-only home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: Snow has been timid in new situations. He manages his stress well and has not escalated, but we recommend a slow approach and slow introduction to new people. He should be the one to initiate interactions and should only be pet once he is soliciting attention, so it is clear that he is comfortable.
01/06/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
1/6: When off leash with male and female dogs Snow engages in some running play when solicited then focuses solely on mounting. He will continue to attempt to mount when correction is offered. 1/7: Snow engages in some play but is more intent on mounting; at one point tensing and needing to be pulled away from a smaller female he is attempting to mount (he was comfortable and appropriate with smaller dogs otherwise). He is tolerant of a male dog that mounts and growls at him.
