04/01/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Snow came to us with her one year old son, Brownie. Like him, she was pretty thin, borderline emaciated but has gained much needed weight at the care center. Snow is indeed as white as snow. She got a bath upon arrival as her grooming was poor. She is such a beautiful flower. Snow is ready when you are, laying at her door to make sure she is being noticed. She is so quiet in her den. She is very good on the leash and does her business as soon as we enter the yard or the street. She sits right away on command and takes treats very gently and politely from my hand. Snow’s hallmark is her love for people, even those she just met. Her tail wags non stop and her eyes are just for her caretaker. She trusts very quickly and is on my lap in no time. Kisses galore, caresses and hugs. If you want genuine love, Snow is the dog for you. Snow came to the care center as a stray. Brownie and she had gotten into a squabble and it seems to have taken a toll on her. She is a little uncomfortable around other dogs in the street or in playgroups with her peers. She might need to be the only dog in the house for now. Snow is waiting at the Manhattan Care Center, hoping to start a new page in her life…with you.
03/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Snow pulls a bit on the leash. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Snow easily engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open. She took the toy away but had soft body language. Snow rushed in confidently towards the friendly dog body is tense, ears erect and high tail wag. Snow came to our center with a bite history during the dog to dog interaction Snow was uncomfortable with a tense body language. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Dog – dog 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with her tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect. Helper: A1061323
03/30/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Snow arrived at the care center after getting into a scuffle with a male dog in her home. Due to her history she is muzzled for this interaction. She is tense but allows multiple, polite greetings from the female helper dog. Over time she stiffens when approached and rushes toward the female, growling. She walks away after handler intervention then rushes again, this time growling and snapping. She came from a home with a male dog, and although their daily interactions are unknown, she was surrendered after getting into a scuffle with him (cause unknown). The behavior department recommends not placing her into a home with another dog until her behaviors can be followed up on.
