08/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Smores came to the care center as a stray so there is no known history in a home. Upon intake, he was stiff and cowering, he allowed staff to put a leash on him and was reluctant to walk. For his relief walk, Smores walked nicely on leash. When in the assessment room, Smores appeared fearful, trembling and cowering. He was tense and trembling during Look, body and head low. He continued to tremble during Sensitivity, body tense, lip long. For Tag he followed, a bit fearful, and approached at the end. He did not pull back his paw on the first Squeeze attempt. On the second Squeeze attempt, he quickly pulled back his paw and he continued to tremble. He had no interest in Toy. When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Smores is fearful and actively avoids the greeter dog. The Behavior Team recommends that Smores be placed in an Experienced home with no young children. He will need a slow approach and slow introduction. The behavior department believes he would benefit from a home environment that is initially calm and quiet, allowing him to interact at his own pace. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, trembling. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back paw. Toy 1. No interest. Dog to Dog: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Smores is fearful and actively avoids the greeter dog.
08/16/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Smores arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs. When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Smores is fearful and actively avoids the greeter dog. The behavior team feels that Smores should be allowed time to acclimate to life outside the shelter environment and would be most comfortable as the only resident dog, before following up on his behavior around them.
