07/30/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: My handsome new friend was so delighted to be chosen next for a walk, going potty the moment we were out the door. His leash manners are lovely, and because he is way too thin we’re feeding him an extra meal daily to plump him up. His soft face is gentle, his eye contact sweet and undemanding, and when I offer him a treat he takes it so gently my heart swells. SJ (we’re on a nickname basis now and he calls me ‘vol’), sat for a treat and it looked like he was getting ready to offer me a paw but maybe my treats weren’t good enough for a paw! In his first play group he engaged in “dainty play” with a female. SJ had been curled up in a ball sleeping when I first approached his kennel, and after our time together he hopped right back into his kennel, onto his bed and lay down. So gentle, so easy to be with, a bit hand shy from time to time, SJ is hoping to meet his new person or family to feed him well, provide a soft bed on which to sleep, easy walks and lots of love. It should be an easy ‘give’ for this sweet boy. Someone is going to be very lucky, shouldn’t it be you?
07/31/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Smokin Joe came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He was quiet and calm upon intake. Smokin Joe walked well overall on leash for his relief walk, but may pull a bit when interested in something. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, lip lick, eyes averted. Smokin Joe stood still during Sensitivity item, body tense, mouth closed. He was distracted and unresponsive to each pass on Tag game. Smokin Joe did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He showed minimal interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs, Smokin Joe engages in gentle dainty play with a solcial female. He plays with the intent to mount. The Behavior Team feels Smokin Joe would do best with an Experienced adopter. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, lip lick Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy Dog-dog: when off leash with other dogs, Smokin Joe engages in gentle dainty play with a solcial female. He plays with the intent to mount.
07/29/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Smokin Joe solicits a bit of play from the female greeter dog with intent to mount. He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing him into a home with other dogs.
