I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 05/03/2016 from NY 10301, owner surrender reason stated was MOVE2PRIVA. I came in with Group/Litter #K16-055976.

05/03/16 18:48 Basic Information: Smokey is a 9 year old unneutered male Pit Bull that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Socialization: According to the owner, Smokey is friendly around strangers and will play in a gentle way with adults. Smokey lived with 2 other dogs in the home and owner stated that he was relaxed and playful around them. Owner stated he never showed aggression towards the other dogs. Smokey has also been in the presence of children and cats with them in a playful and gentle with them. He has never bit another animal or person while in owner’s care. Behavior: Smokey is friendly when someone touches his food, take away treats or toys, if he is pushed off the furniture, having his nails trimmed or being given a bath, having his coat brushed or when unfamiliar people would approach owners home or yard. For a New Family to Know: Smokey is described as friendly and playful with a medium activity level. When in the home, Smokey likes to be in the same room as the owner. He likes to play with balls and enjoys playing chase. Smokey was kept mostly indoors and is very house trained. Owner stated he rarely/never has accidents in the home. When Smokey was left home or in the yard alone, he was well behaved. Smokey knows the command sit. For exercise, owner would take him on slow walks on the leash and stated that Smokey would pull lightly. When Smokey was taken off leash, he would stay close to the owner. When it comes to food, Smokey was fed dry food only but owner did not know the brand name. Owner stated his favorite thing about Smokey is how playful he is.

Smokey came into our center along with 2 other similarly sized dogs citing landlord issues. He has also reportedly been in the presence of children and cats, playful and gentle with all. Owner reports Smokey is friendly when someone touches his Food, Toys, Treats. Owner states Smokey was kept mostly indoors and is very housetrained. He is described as friendly and playful. Smokey walked well on leash for his relief walk, no pulling. He was friendly and sociable upon entering SAFER assessment area. Smokey allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, relaxed. He leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, body soft. Smokey followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, settled easily at end. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Smokey took Toy away, kept a firm grip, not stiff. When off leash, Smokey was polite and tolerant but did not engage in play. The Behavior Team feels Smokey would do well in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1/ 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip , not stiff dog-dog: When off leash, Smokey was polite and tolerant but did not engage in play
