01/25/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Frenchie is a cute little guy but beware……he is so excited to go out, do his business and be in company that he will bolt, unleashed, out of his kennel…It happened a few times…. Frenchie is part Chihuahua and part Pekinese, two very sensitive breeds and one can imagine that a shelter setting, a kennel and the lack of an owner to belong to and to love must take quite a toll on him…Frenchie is a sweet chap and a great walker .. He is not a marker and does his business at once as we enter the street. I am gentle with him, of course and he lets me pet him without issue. He is quite a good lap dog. Frenchie performed well on his behavioral evaluation except that he did not like at all to have his paw squeezed. This is why we would like him to find back his barings with a New Hope partner who will provide the safe and nurturing environment this little chap needs. Frenchie is at the Manhattan Care Center, waiting for his time to shine, love and be loved.
01/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Frenchie walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during the look and sensitivity. Frenchie was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He became stiff and uncomfortable turning quickly toward the assessor hand (showing teeth and tries to bite) during paw handling, During the resources Frenchie was not interested in toys. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: Frenchie avoids the other dogs and instead sits at the feet of the handler.
01/19/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Frenchie is nervous and avoids interaction. 1/20 update: Frenchie briefly sniffs the other dogs before going off to explore the yard then standing between the handler’s legs. 1/21: Frenchie avoids the other dogs and instead sits at the feet of the handler. 1/26: Frenchie approaches to sniff the other dogs but does not engage much further. 1/27: Frenchie continues to display these behaviors when off leash with other dogs. 1/28 update: Frenchie greets when other dogs approach then stands near the handlers.
