01/24/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/24/16 16:22hrs Skye has lived with her owner since she was 9 weeks old along with Milo (A1063540). They have both been surrendered due to their owner unable to keep them at the owner’s residence. Skye is described as laid back, friendly and independent. She has lived with children that are 1 and 6 years old. She allows the children to pet her and tug at her ears and tails. She becomes excited while she is playing and will jump up onto the children, sometimes knocking them down. She is very playful with the other dogs but will stay near her owner most of the time. She will attempt to approach other dogs that she notices outside and will stiffen her body but will allow the other dogs to sniff her. BEHAVIOR Skye isn’t bothered by having her food touched while she is eating or if it’s taken from her. Skye will growl if she is eating and another dog approaches her. She would also stop Milo from eating because she would stare at the food bowl whenever he would go near it to eat. She is accustomed to being bathed every other month. She is accustomed to lying at her owner’s feet but will also try to sit in her owner’s lap to receive attention. When Skye is left alone in the home, she is either left inside of a room or her crate. Her owner stated she tore at the house plants the last time she was allowed to roam free. When visitors enter the home, she will bark at the person until she is allowed to approach them and sniff them. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Skye knows the commands “come here” “sit” and “paw”. Skye is housetrained and accustomed to being walked at least 3x a day alongside Milo for 30 minutes at a time. She is allowed off leash in enclosed areas and responds to her owner when called. She likes to chew on stuff animals and playing with tug ropes. She is fed Eukanuba dry dog food but sometimes she will eat dry mixed with wet when it’s available in the home. She sleeps on a blanket on the floor. DURING INTAKE Skye would wag her tail but stiffen her body when approached. She allowed petting and would accept treats when offered to her. She was collared, scanned for a microchip(negative) and photographed without displaying any negative behavior.
01/26/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: With the cutest little pink and tan nose on the planet, and wearing a gorgeously groomed caramel coat, Skye joins us with her brother Milo (A1063540) as their owner is no longer able to care for them. She’s friendly, tail waggy and happy to be out for a walk, showing off her housetraining skills the moment we’re out the door. Her leash manners are lovely, she lets me put a coat on her and after stopping to take some pictures we head into the backyard. Skye explored the pen, hopped up on the bench for some hugs and kisses, comes when I call her and checks out everything going on around her. We’re told she lived with two young children and interacted well with them, but occasionally knocking them over when playing. She doesn’t mind a person coming near her food bowl, but doesn’t like when other dogs do, is used to a bath every other month, and thinks she’s a lap dog!! She and Milo were walked 3x a day. Skye is a delight, easy to be with, friendly and gentle. A proven family dog, she’s looking for a new family to take care of. Our behavior team thinks she’ll be fine with a person or family with average dog experience, and if that describes you she’s hoping you’ll stop by to meet her.
01/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Skye came into our center along with another medium sized dog due to owner’s personal problems. She pulled on leash for her relief walk. Skye was friendly and sociable upon entering SAFER assessment room. She held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, lip lick, tail wagging. Skye stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body neutral. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, approaching at the end. Skye did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. She showed no interest in Toy. Skye approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, ears neutral, body relaxed. The Behavior Team feels Skye would do well in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body, tail wag, lip lick. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, low tail wag, approaches at end. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy 1. No interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral
01/26/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Skye was initially uncomfortable when interacting, but she has started to warm up during her stay. She will now readily approach the gate to greet other dogs and will even allow soft solicitations without moving away. She came from a home with a male dog with whom her owner reports she was very playful with. Based on this information the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing her into a home with other dogs as well as allowing her time to acclimate to her new environment before introducing her to any resident dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Skye does not approach to greet the helper dog. She offers a lip curl when the helper dog approaches her to sniff. 1/28 update: Skye is more confident, approaching the other dog with a soft body and wagging tail. She interacts well in a larger group of dogs, but is uncomfortable and will run away once one of the females begins to solicit play by bouncing toward her and vocalizing.
