05/15/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Sister Girl picks up her front paws when she walks like a dressage horse…just one of her endless charms! She has previously lived harmoniously with other dogs and children (ages 8 years and up) and is said to be housetrained (she seems it) and well behaved when home alone. She has been an absolute delight with me! She can be a little jumpy if she’s excited and makes it known how happy she is to see her favorite staff members in the hallways, but once it’s out of her system she has great leash manners. She lights up when I toss her a toy and easily lets me take it from her. She loves treats (but needs chicken-free ones due to allergies) and knows “sit,” “paw,” and “down.” She loves to be pet and will burrow her head into my lap and then flop over for belly rubs! She has an awesome positive energy and is so fun to be with! Sister Girl would love to be your girl…please come meet this big sweetheart at Brooklyn ACC!
05/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sister Girl previously lived with adults and children ages 8 years old and up. The owner mentioned Sister Girl is relaxed, and plays exuberantly with adults, children and strangers. The owner stated Sister Girl lived with other dogs and was relaxed and playful towards them. The owner describes Sister Girl as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, mellow, and excitable. It was reported by the owner Sister Girl is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Sister Girl was friendly and allowed all handling. During SAFER Sister Girl came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and playful towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Sister Girl joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Sister Girl was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some concerns during Sister Girl dog to dog interaction, she had stiff body posture, growls then hard barks, the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter and we recommend no other dogs in the household. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: Sister Girl’s previous owner reported that she lived with other dogs and was relaxed and playful with them. However, when off leash at the Care Center she approaches the gate with a stiff posture, gives a hard stare and a growl then barks. Due to this behavior Sister Girl was muzzled before being allowed into the pen. She immediately rushes toward the helper dog and lunges onto his flank.
