03/14/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Milky sounds like the name of a candy bar, and this one is definitely a treat. He is eager to please and have a good time — very much like a giant puppy. His likes include toys, people, toys, cuddling, toys, and more cuddling! He pulls on the leash, but walks much more nicely after he’s burned off some energy chasing balls, play bowing with squeaky toys, and shaking stuffed ones in his mouth. He was found with a female dog, seems eager to play with dogs in neighboring pens, and has done well when given the opportunity to do so in playgroup. He seems housebroken and is very treat motivated. He has really soft fur and I enjoy petting him as much as he enjoys being on the receiving end! He’ll sit on my feet, drape across my lap, and always makes really soft eye contact. He is so, so sweet. Come meet Milky at Brooklyn ACC — you’ll make his day!
03/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Milky came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Milky was a bit nervous and jumpy, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Milky came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and playful towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Milky was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Milky was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Milky appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Milky greets with a soft, loose body and approach. He solicits play with a tap dancing bounces and engages in gentle play with the helper dog.
03/08/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Milky (fka Sir K) greets with a soft, loose body and approach. He solicits play with a tap dancing bounces and engages in gentle play with the helper dog. Overtime Milky becomes more energetic in playgroup. He can be a little overwhelming to some dogs due to his high energy and may not respond immediately to the other dog’s body signals to slow down nor the handler’s interruptions. However, after given a time-out he does settle down and engage in proper rowdy, bouncy, reciprocal play with another dog. Due to his behavior in playgroup, the Behavior Department feels that Milky is suitable for a home with female dogs of any temperament or play style if a proper introduction is conducted. 3/9 update: Sir K greets with a loose, wiggly body and engages in brief, gentle play with paw slaps and bounces. He looses interest after several minutes and explores the yard. 3/10 update: Sir K solicts play with bouncy play bows and responds to corrections when given by other dogs. 3/13- 3/21 update: Milky (fka Sir K) is a little overwhelming with his energy today and does not respond to the other dog’s body signals to slow down nor the handler’s interruptions. He does settle down and engage in rowdy, bouncy play with another energetic dog.
