SAFE 06/29/16 A volunteer writes: So quiet in his kennel, patiently waiting his turn, I couldn’t wait to meet this handsome fellow. Compact in his gorgeous coat, Sincere showed off his housetraining skills and great leash manners and I fell in love. He’s been beautifully taken care of and surrendered to our care by the only family he’s ever known due to “personal problems”. He’s lived with young children, two cats (with whom he didn’t interact) and a Shih Tzu. We’re told he doesn’t guard this stuff, likes to be brushed and bathed, is housetrained (yup!!), knows ‘sit’ and ‘give paw’, is friendly to strangers and slept on a blanket on the floor of the bedroom. In the park Sincere posed for photos like a rockstar, gave me that head tilt look that melts my heart, showed off his sit, and tried to climb up on the bench next to me. He couldn’t quite make it and looked totally embarrassed and I could hear him thinking…..’just kidding, I wasn’t really trying’… In a back yard pen he chases a tennis ball, wags his tail waiting for the next throw and does a partial retrieve. Sincere is a great compact size, and is such a quiet sweet boy he’ll make his new person or family very happy. Our behavior assessors agree stating that Sincere can be adopted by a person with average dog experience. Come meet our handsome boy today – he’s ready to begin his happily ever after.

06/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sincere walks calmly on leash. He was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Sincere was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys. Sincere did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Sincere greets and sniffs politely, then roams.
06/22/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Sincere has mostly displayed sexually motivated behavior when introduced to female dogs. Keep in mind that Sincere is currently unaltered. Sincere has not been comfortable interactign with male dogs thus far, stiffening, growling and standing on top of the helper male. He arrived as an owner surrender, and his previous owner cites that he formely lived with a smaller sized dog, and specifies that he was ‘relaxed’ around them, with no further detail. It is currently unclear how Sincere’s behavior around unfamiliar dogs will translate outside the shelter based on th observations made while in our care. The behavior department recommends allowing Sincere time to adjust to life outside the shelter before following up on his behavior around other dogs. 6/22: When off leash with other dogs, Sincere greets and sniffs politely, then roams. 6/23: Sincere displays sexually motivated behavior and attempts to mount the female greeter. 6/24 update: Sincere greets politely and is a bit sexually motivated. He does cease with correction. 6/25 update: Sincere politely greets another male dog but becomes tense when that male repeatedly attempts to solicit play from him. He will eventually attempt to mount a female but seems content to explore the yard alone. 6/26: Sincere is polite when greeting other dogs, however approaches a select male dog, becomes tense, T’s his shoulders, then places his paws on his back and begins to growl. He is interrupted by handlers and separated.
