08/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “When you’re smiling, when you’re smiling…the whole world smiles with you…” These lyrics, sung by all the musical greats–Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Rufus Wainwright, Dean Martin and more–is Silver’s theme song! My first intro to Silver was the sound of his tail thumping on the sides of his kennels–I’d like to think–keeping the beat to his theme song :). Enthusiastic and happy to be leashed, Silver potties the moment we’re outside, and off we go to the park. He pulls on the leash in his joy and excitement, made new friends, posed for photos like a pro and through it all, his captivating grin and happy tail wag brought smiles to all. Bouncy and playful with a plush toy, wiggle butt with new people, lively and energetic, his enthusiasm for life is contagious. Having a bad day? Impossible when you’re with Silver–he won’t let that happen. He’ll wiggle and wag, smile and sparkle and show you his love. Silver needs a bit of training not to jump on people in his joy to see them, and lots of exercise to maintain his perfect physique. If you’re looking for an exercise buddy who will make every moment sparkle, come meet Silver today.
08/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Silver pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler- jumped up. During the assessment Silver was excited but had soft body language. He showed some concerning behavior during the tag interaction: growled and tried to bite. The behavior team decided to skip the squeeze portion of the assessment because of Silver’s response on tag. During the resources Silver took the toy away but had soft body language. Prior to the start of the assessment Silver display signs of having a low threshold for arousal and frustration. While Silver was tethered to the wall, he started becoming highly frustrated and began to demand bark, seeming to also be a hard bark with holding direct eye contact with the assesor. Each time the assessor tried to move away, Silver would air snap and actively attempt to make contact. Silver seemed to briefly recover once the assessor walked away and appeared neutral on his reapproach, collaring was attempted and done without issue. The behavior department feels as though Silver will need to be placed through a New Hope partner who can follow up on his significant arousal levels as well as any barrier reactivity that may follow. We recommend behavior modification in an experienced foster home before placement into a permanent home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 5. Dog growls and tries to bite. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.
08/03/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
8/3: When off leash with other dogs, Silver is playful. He engages in running chase play and boucnes around with the greeter dog. The behavior team feels a home with a playful dog could be considered for Silver pending a pre-adoption interaction.
