12/29/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/29/16 15:09 Basic Information Silk is a 1 year old spayed American Pit Bull Terrier. Owner is surrendering her because she can no longer take care of her. Owner is medically impaired and her pet has become too strong for her. Owner adopted Silk from a stranger 10 months ago. Owner stated Silk has no medical issues and last saw a vet in April for vaccination. Socialization Silk is friendly around strangers. She has spent time with kids of all ages. She was playful with the kids and played in a gentle manner with kids and adults. She lived with a 4 year old male American Pitt Bull Terrier. They played in a somewhat rough manner. She has never lived or spent time with cats. She has never bitten a person or animal. Behavior Owner stated Silk will start playing fine with any dog but then growls and pins the other dog down. She is not bothered by loud or sudden noises. Owner stated she does not guard food, treats of any kind, or toys. She tolerates all kinds of handling. Owner has never bathed her or trimmed her nails. She will bark if someone knocks on the door but is not bothered if someone approaches her owner. For a New Family to Know Silk is described as friendly, affectionate, and playful with a medium activity level. She will follow her owner around when home. She likes to play with balls, squeaky, and chew style toys. She likes to play chase. She was kept indoors only and slept on a couch. She was fed dry food mixed with wet food twice a day. She was fed Merricks whole earth. She is house-trained and will potty anywhere outside. She is well behaved when left home alone. She has never been left in a yard or crate trained. She knows commands sit, come, give paw, leave it, and no. Owner takes her on brisk walks for exercise and lets her run in central park when it is allowed. She does not pull and is never walked off the leash. Behavior during Intake Silk tolerated all handling. No signs of aggression were displayed.
01/02/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Silk is affectionate to the extreme. As we walked, she would whimper and jump up to be petted. It was quirky, yet endearing. Once I started petting her she would sit right down. She begged for constant petting during the whole walk. She’s most definitely a “people-dog!” Another volunteer writes: Silk is just as exquisite as her name suggests, a supermodel with a winning smile and a heart big enough to smother everyone she meets with lots of love and an endless supply of cuddles. Happy to go outside and take care of her business, Silk looks to other dogs with smiling eyes and lived in harmony with a pittie brother but her number one focus is spending as much time as possible with (and on!) her beloved people. She’s anxious and needy and wants to be close at all times so walking can be a bit of a tricky manoeuvre as she’d much rather jump up for a hug than stroll down the street but off-leash she sits on command, takes treats gently and has no objection to being dressed up in a coat and posing for photos either. Accustomed to playing well with children of all ages, we’re told Silk never guards her toys or food and knows a host of commands including come, give paw and leave it. She still needs time, love and training to be her best self but you could search the world over and not find a more affectionate and adoring girl than Silk. Come feel the love at our Manhattan Care Center today!
