A volunteer writes:
Sierrha is a sheep dog who looks like a sheep….all wooly….She lays quietly and patiently in her kennel but is ready when I show up at her door. She is quite friendly  with her lovely smile and  wagging tail before she even steps out of her den.She accepts a boa around her neck…She is all girl… Walking Sierrha is as easy as 1,2,3…She does her business on the way and salutes little and big dogs.In playgroups with her peers, she salutes politely and seeks rather the attention of the staff. She is so serene…Free in a pen, she sits without me asking when she sees a treat in my hand. She loves food and will gently beg for more.Sierrha  is fond of caresses and attention although she is not pushy. She was tremendously matted from nose to tail upon arrival . A good grooming revealed a real beauty not that she is was not already quite attractive just the way she was. She must feel so much more comfortable…… Sierrha is a happy nature and a  sociable, friendly, affectionate, lively but calm lady who did very well on her behavioral evaluation(very much expected…). She will make a fantastic and loving forever best friend to the one who will be her master. Sierha is at the Manhattan Care Center.

A Volunteer writes: Sierrha exudes peace and tranquility. She has a very enchanting, zen-like quality about her. When you look at her, you forget about all your cares! Needless to say she is a perfectly behaved young lady on the leash and gladly accepts any rubs or scratches you are willing to give. She’s a real heartbreaker and anyone would be lucky to have her!

Dog allowed handling during intake.

Admissions memo:

Police got a call stating woman who owned dog was pulling dogs hair and going to the bathroom next to dog. Owner is a homeless woman who the police took to hosiptal. No phone number. Dog seems to be very dirty and matted.

BEHAVIOR

Sierrha walks calmly on leash.  She was calm and relaxed during handling and easily engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open.  Sierrha was not interested in toys.Sierrha did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home.

Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture.

Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game.

Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.

Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.

Toy 1. No interest.
