MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT
10/06/2016 Exam Type BEHAVIORPART2 – Medical Rating is 1 – NORMAL , Behavior Rating is NONE, Weight 55.5 LBS.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience 10/6 SHELTER BEHAVIOR UPDATE: When attempting to remove Shylo’s leash, he growled at a volunteer as well as a staff member. After time to settle a Behavior staff member attempted to remove him from his kennel. He was uncomfortable and quickly retreated and growled when the leash was presented. She walked away and upon return he charged the kennel door, growling, as soon as she was in front. Shylo is becoming fearful and uncomfortable in the shelter environment and, aside from his in-kennel concerns, he has become less social with handlers outside as well (avoiding touch and not soliciting attention).
09/30/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/30/16 12:46 Basic Info: Shylo A1091769 is a 1yr 6mth old male chocolate & white AMPBT mix who was given to the owner from the previous owner 9months ago and is being surrendered due to him being too strong, too hyper & cost. He was last seen by a veterinarian as a pup and currently has no known health issues/injuries. Socialization: Around strangers Shylo is friendly/outgoing. He’s lived with an 7yr old child and was gentle, exuberant, relaxed and playful with them also the adult in the home. Shylo hasn’t lived with other animals but according to the owner he gets along with dogs he sees/plays with on the street. Shylo has never bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: Shylo isn’t bothered by the following: having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being moved off of furniture, being brushed, having his nails trimmed or being disturbed while sleeping/resting. For bath time Shylo will try & jump out of the tub. If someone approaches the home/family member Shylo will bark & jump on them for attention/affection. For A New Family to Know: Shylo is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable & independent with a medium-very high activity level. He enjoys playing with ball, squeaky, rope toys and games of fetch, chase, wrestling & tug. Shylo is mostly an indoor only dog that sleeps with the owner and child & is walked 2-3x a day where he pulls on his leash. Shylo eats dry Pedigree 2x a day, is housebroken (but will have accidents if someone takes too long to take him out) and his known commands are “sit”, “stay” & “come” that he takes a few minutes to listen to. Intake Behavior: Shylo allowed all handling. He allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of including positioning him during his photo session. Shylo then walked alongside me to the transport van where he tried to jump into on his own but needed assistance with which he didn’t seem to mind.
10/05/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I’m a sucker for a sad hound dog face, and Shylo’s is near-perfect: handsome and winsome in equal measure. This gorgeous guy could break your heart and make your day with just one look! I’m the very first stranger that day to walk him at the Care Center, and while shy in his kennel, he gradually relaxes as we stroll along. By the time we’ve reach the park, his tail is softly wagging, his fly-away ears are all perked up and he’s ready to leap onto the first bench he sees. A big fan of The Three P’s (petting, praise and Pupperoni) Shylo is all about settling down and spending some quality quiet time together, and I’m shocked to see one of the reasons given for his surrender as ‘too strong and hyper’. Perhaps he’s hiding an energetic puppy somewhere behind his wise old soul exterior, but I suspect the truth is that Shylo just needed more time and attention than his former owner was able to provide. He lived and played gently with a 7 year old and is said to get along well with dogs he meets on the street (as well as in our playgroups), and he’s happy to share his toys, food and space with anyone who cares to join him. Already knowledgeable in sit, stay and come commands, he walks well, seems quite house trained, and we’re told he liked to sleep with his owner and little sibling at night–can I get an awwww? No surprise then that sweet Shylo received high praise on his behavior assessment and is recommended for almost any home–the more people to love him, the better. Bring Shylo home with you today and put a smile on everyones face…including his.
