08/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: They say never to judge a book by its cover, yet when I first saw handsome young Shorty with his eager eyes and ‘experienced home’ behavior rating, I figured I was in for an exhausting outing full of rough and rowdy energy. But I’m thrilled to say I couldn’t have been more wrong! This wonderfully friendly boy turned out to be an angelic little gentleman, perfectly playful but never over the top and sooo soft of mouth and good about sharing his toys, a real joy to be around. He’s a curious and attentive walker and seemingly house trained, already knows ‘come’ and ‘sit’ and takes treats ever so gently, and he loves other dogs, too, greeting them enthusiastically in the street and playfully bouncing around in group, even letting one of the girls lay right on top of him! Shorty’s great joys in life are (in no particular order) plush toys, tasty food, doggie dates, butt rubs and exploring the park, and he’d love to find a new family who can give him all that and more. So put down your beach reading list for a minute and check out this fabulous summertime (or any time) companion instead. Shorty’s waiting just for you!
08/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Shorty pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was excited and mouthy (moderate) during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Shorty was excitable but playful while playing tag. He took the toy away with a soft body language. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, jumpy with a body soft, ears back, open mouth. Squeeze 1/2: 2. Dog places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand applying moderate pressure. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toys. Playgroup notes: When off leash with other dogs, Shorty engages in play with intent to mount. The behavior team feels that Shorty should have a pre-adoption interaction to ensure compatbaility with any reisdent dogs in a future home. He arrived as a stray, so behavior history is unknown.
08/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION

8/9: When off leash with other dogs, Shorty engages in play with intent to mount. The behavior team feels that Shorty should have a pre-adoption interaction to ensure compatbaility with any reisdent dogs in a future home. He arrived as a stray, so behavior history is unknown.
