08/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Shorty came into our center as an owner surrender citing housing issues. It is reported he spent time with a 7 year old and is relaxed and playful and gentle at play, spent time with other dogs and is said to be respectful. Shorty reportedly isn’t bothered if anyone touches his Food, Toys, Treats. Owner reports Shorty is housebroken and well behaved when home alone, knows the cues ‘sit’ and ‘come’. Shorty is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and mellow. During intake, he was friendly and allowed all handling. Shorty was calm and quiet upon entering the SAFER assessment room, a bit cautious and alert. He held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, body neutral. Shorty stood still during Sensitivity item, tense and trembling, mouth closed. He followed at the end of the leash very slowly, unresponsive to each pass. Shorty moved his body away on paw Squeeze attempt, so remaining item was conducted using Flank. He had no response to both Flank Squeezes. Shorty showed no interest in Toy. He slowly approached the helper dog, investigated and then turned away. The Behavior Team feels Shorty would do best with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit initially from a calm, quiet, structured environment so he can relax and warm up at his own pace. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense and trembling, mouth closed, lip long, ears back Tag: 1.
