Other notes:

SAFER ASSESSMENT:

Look:1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted.

Sensitivity:1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Tag:1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins.

Squeeze 1& 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.

Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy.

Summary: Sheena was friendly and playful towards the assessor.

PLAYGROUP:

Sheena was brought in as a stray, but the finder reported Sheena was respectful with her small dog. In a group of male and female dogs, Sheena is nervous-tucked rear and lip licking. She is tolerant of a sexually motivated male persistently licking her genitals and does not react when a female dog jumps on her back, and muzzle punch her. She calmly explores the pen the rest of the rest the session.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR

Upon intake Sheena was soft, loose and wiggly, she allowed all handling.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:

During her medical examination, Sheena was loose and wiggly, friendly, she allowed all handling.

ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Sheena so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)

For more information on adopting from the NYC AC&C, or to find a rescue to assist, please read the following: http://urgentpodr.org/adoption-info-and-list-of-rescues.

If you are local to the Tri-State, New England, and the general Northeast United States area, and you are SERIOUS about adopting or fostering one of the animals at NYC ACC, please read our MUST READ section for instructions, or email helpdogs@urgentpodr.org. Our experienced volunteers will do their best to guide you through the process.

* We highly discourage everyone from trusting strangers that send them Facebook messages, offering help, for it has ended in truly tragic events.*
