A volunteer writes:

I think we might have what you are looking for….She has a mythical sounding name but she is a real life pooch, totally forever best friend material. You want playful….She has it. You want loving… She has it.  You want well mannered and good with her kind… She has it. This is Sheboyah for you and only. Sheboyah came to us for no fault of her own. Her owner past away and she and housemate Shadow are now with us here at the Manhattan Care Center. Both have been amazingly cared for. They also might share some genes as they bare  a striking physical resemblance. Sheboyah is at her door, ready for her walk . She pulls a little, does her business right away and does not bother the birds. She shines, leash free in the yard. Sheboyah is an instant lap dog who appointed herself as my caretaker. Yes, she is a feel good dog, snuggling against my chest and making sure that my face is thorough fully washed with her dutiful  and hard working tongue…Her eyes are dreamy and happy. Her tail wags non stop. She loves the sight of other dogs and runs in a very friendly manners to meet them, boys and girls…Sheboyah is very fond of ball games too. She goes from a peaceful and low key gal to a high energy one. She is focused though, right on task and clearly so thrilled to be again the beaming dog she was(I have no doubt) with her former master. Sheboyah is such a pleasure to spend time with. She will be a wonderful addition to any type of household or family, a companion sure to brighten your life. Come and meet her soon. Make her day and yours…
Another volunteer writes:  Does the idea of a companion who is beautiful, playful and will look into your eyes as if you’re the only person on the planet before sliding down for a belly rub knock your socks off?  Well then, come meet Sheboyah!!  So quiet in her kennel and so happy to come out for the chance to go potty, she’s gently playful, her tail wags at making new friends and her happy place is in her person’s arms getting some loving.   Joining us with her housemate when their owner passed away, it’s clear that she’s used to lots of love in a happy home.   The perfect combination of sweet playfulness, love and belly rubs, Miss Sheboyah is ready to find the new love of her life today.
Another volunteer writes:   I love walking through the park and seeing one of my favorite dogs getting loved on by a volunteer.   Miss Sheboyah was snuggling, kissing, and wagging her tail in the arms of a volunteer who clearly adores her.   And, what’s not to love, as my mother would say.   She’s petite, gorgeous, her eyes sparkle, she’s fun and friendly, loves loves loves people, and isn’t a great fan of her kennel.  She proved her people love by licking the hand of the intake person (even though her person passed away and she was in a new strange environment) and then by doing fabulously well on her behavior assessment.  Sheboyah will do better with calm, polite dogs and slow introductions are needed as she may not along with all dogs.   We love her, you’ll love her, come meet her today.

Summary: Sheboyah displayed no concerning behaviors on her assessment and was social throughout.
DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT:
SummaryPLAYGROUP:
4/27: When introduced off leash to the male greeter dog, Sheboyah is a bit cautious and avoids approach.  She follows human handlers in the pen and seeks out their attention.4/30: Sheboyah briefly greets polite dogs with a softer body, then mostly seeks handler attention.5/1: Sheboyah approaches and greets all dogs.  She is a bit tense when greeting an older, calmer male, and follows him for a bit before disengaging herself.5/2: Sheboyah displays a bit of a tense body and high flagging tail when greeted.  When solicited with play by the other dog, she reciprocates with a few brief hops and toe taps.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
During her initial medical exam Sheboyah allowed handling.

ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Sheboyah so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment.  However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
