12/23/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/23/16 15:38 Basic Information: Shea is a 5 year old pitbull mix. Her owner was evicted suddenly and had to move out of state. Her owner’s friend brought in Shea and was taking care of her for the past two days. He has known Shea for a few years. Socialization: Shea is friendly/outgoing around strangers. She has spent time with children and is relaxed/playful with them. With adults and children Shea is gentle. She has spent time around other large dogs and is relaxed, playful and respectful of them. She plays with other dogs gently. She has never bitten anyone and has never bitten another animal. Behavior: She barks at the door a lot and likes to eat garbage at home. She is not bothered if you touch her food, or food bowl, take away her rawhide or chews or toys. She is not bothered if you push her off the furniture or if you disturb her while sleeping, give her a bath, or brush her. If someone unfamiliar approaches the door she will bark at the door and if someone unfamiliar approaches one of her family members she is not bothered. For New Family: Shea is friendly, affectionate, and playful. She is a medium activity level dog. Favorite things about her is that she is smart, playful, and intuitive. She sleeps anywhere in the house. She eats both wet and dry food. She is housetrained, and rarely has accidents at home. She goes potty on the cement. She knows the commands sit, come, down. She loves to go on walks for exercise and go to the park. She can go off leash and will wander but comes when called. She pulls lightly on the leash.
12/30/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I so feel for Shea, a proven family dog who lived happily with children and mingled nicely with other large dogs…Her world fell apart when her owners encountered housing issues and had to leave our state. She pulls on the leash until she does her business and her pent up energy wears out. Then, she is all lovy dovy, a snuggler and a kisser who seems to try to get all the warmth she can get from her temporary caretaker before to go back to her den.. Shea sits very nicely on command and absolutely loves treats. She seems fine meeting dogs in the yard and has been shy with her peers in the one playgroup she attended. Shea comes with lovely comments: smart, playful, intuitive, affectionate and a good listener, all attributes we like to see in a family pet. Shea is a pretty gal who can make the sweetest eyes… and will bring joy to the new owners or family who will open their home and heart to her. Please, do count Shea in your New Year wishes for happiness. She will be your loyal and loving friend for ever.

Dog leans in and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is wagging, mouth closed, lip lick Tag: 2. May benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of walks, runs, exercise, play. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Proximity Sensitive: These dogs have had a poor history of social experience with other dogs or could be extremely fearful in the shelter environment. They are socially shy and may exhibit fearful body posturing (tucked tail, head low, snarling etc), defensive posturing (lunging, barking, snarling etc.) or physically avoid/ignore other dogs. They will emit warning signals to the other dog to back away but if they are forced to interact they may snap. PLAYGROUP: Shea has not yet been comfortable interacting with dogs in the care center. Due to limited observation, and lack of history around dogs, the behavior department feels that Shea may be most comfortable as the only resident dog until followup outside the care center. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/23/2016 Shea was friendly and allowed all handling during his initial medical exam. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
12/22/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION

Shea has not yet been comfortable interacting with dogs in the care center. Due to limited observation, and lack of history around dogs, the behavior department feels that Shea may be most comfortable as the only resident dog until followup outside the care center. 12/22: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Shea is a bit tense and unsure upon the greeter dog’s approach. She is tolerant of solicitation but does not reciprocate. 12/23: Shea is, again, tense when interacting with a male dog. She does not approach and will offer correction if mounted. 1/3: Shea ignores approach from another dog.
