I am a neutered male blue and white am pit bull ter. The shelter thinks I am about 10 MONTHS old.
I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 02/02/2017 from NY 11207, owner surrender reason stated was HOME SIZE.

02/02/17 21:24 Shade is a ten month old gray and white American Pitbull terrier. He was surrendered by his owner due to his size; owner stated he has become too large for the small apartment. Owner was given Shade from a friend and was with his owner for a month. He was not taken to the vet by his previous owner. Shade has lived with two adults and a Shih Tzu. He is described as outgoing and friendly towards strangers and will excitedly jump on new people. He has not been around children or cats. Around the other dog in the home he was tolerant and playful. Owner stated he will growl if the other dog approached his food bowl. Shade has not bitten another animal or person. Shade is anxious when left alone and will whine and bark. Owner stated he barks alot in the home and barks when he hears any sound. Shade will snap and growl if his food is touched while eating, owner stated his body will tense and he will move the bowl away. He is the same with a treat. Shade is not bothered when bathed or brushed. Shade will bark when he hears a stranger at his front door and continue to bark until the door is opened. He is described as a excited and playful dog. Shade has been kept mostly indoors and likes to play fetch and chase. He loves balls stuffed toys and chew toys. Shade sleeps in the living room. Shade knows the commands sit, and give paw. He is walked three times a day and is used to leash walks. Shade is fed dry food any brand and is fed twice a day. Shade loves to give kisses and is described as an affectionate dog. Upon intake Shade was relaxed and had a loose wiggly body. He wagged his tail when approached by counselor and sniffed counselors’ hand. He was collared, scanned (negative) and photographed.

KNOWN HISTORY: Full profile 2/2/17 Intact Male, Owner surrender (1 month in the previous home) Previously lived with: Two adults and a Shih Tzu Behavior toward strangers: Friendly and would jump to greet them. Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward dogs: Tolerant and playful Behavior toward cats: Unknown Resource guarding: Shade will snap and growl if his food is touched while eating, his body will tense up and he will move the bowl away. Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Other notes: Upon intake Shade was relaxed, loose and wiggly, he allowed all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 2/4/17 Look:1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity:1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag:1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy: 1.Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Shade was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor, he showed no concerns. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Shade is initially able to engage in and solicit play in a group of playful male and female dogs. With further playgroup sessions, Shade becomes nervous of play and seeks handler interaction. With calmer dogs, Shade keeps to himself as he explores the pen. The Behavior Department recommends that Shade be placed with dogs that match his calm sociability. 2/3: Shade initially engages in cooperative play with the novel female dog. His main objective is to mount her. As the session continues, Shade is able to engage in soft, more appropriate play. 2/4: Shade solicits and engages in gentle play in a group of male and female dogs. He is nervous of an intact male dog and hides behind the handlers. 2/5: When one on one with an intact male dog with an assertive body posture, Shade greets briefly before wandering in the pen. 2/6-2/7: When in the pen with a playful female and a male puppy, Shade shows no interest in the other dogs and seeks handler interaction.
