02/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Secret does not make it a secret that she is a shy and reserved gal… a pretty wall flower. She came with an outgoing little fellow, Hercules, and they must have been a great pair, completing each other. And indeed they were, according to their former owner. Secret is a medium size girl at 46 pounds, compact and so beautifully dressed in her dark chocolate and snow white coat. She has been so well cared for. Secret lived and played with very young children, was friendly to all, well mannered and considered as a good and trustworthy family dog. She is a bit timid here at the care shelter and prefers to ignore large dogs. She is bouncy and playful with little dogs in our playgroups. Secret walks very nicely on the leash, does her business outside (she would be completely house trained according to her former owner) and sits obediently on command. When she senses that you are a friend, Secret is all yours, and will come gently on your lap for love. Secret, who passed her behavioral evaluation with flying colors, is a manicured, gentle, sweet, well behaved, a little timid and loving young girl we have at the Manhattan Care Center. She is waiting very patiently to meet you and be your forever sweet heart.
02/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Secret walks calmly on leash. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Secret had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. While with owner Secret lived with children ages 3, and 4. Client stated that Secret gets excited with the children but still plays gently. With the other dog she lives with Secret is described as being affectionate and playful. According to her previous owner Secret does not show any food guarding behavior and will just continue to eat if he touches food, and allows him to remove things form his mouth. Secret did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. 02/07/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Secret was initially avoidant of larger dogs and needed time to warm up to them. She has remained playful with smaller dogs and overtime became comfortable with large dogs and would engage in play with them–offering paw slaps and bows. She came from a home with a male dog (her size), and the owner reports them as being “affectionate and playful.” The behavior department feels that Secret could go to a home with another dog (male or female) that is respectful and playful, but to allow Secret time to acclimate to her new home before introducing her to any resident dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Secret is nervous while in the yard. She is avoidant of the helper dog and runs away from greeting. 2/10 update: Secret engages in bouncy running play with a group of small dogs. She walks away from a large dog greeting her at the gate. 2/11 update: Secret continues to engage in play with small dogs and ignore larger dogs. 2/12 update: Secret is more comfortable engaging with large dogs and will solicit/play with a larger group of males and females.
