Basic Information
Sebastian is an approximate 8 year old neutered Shih Tzu. He is here because his owner passed away. Surrendering party is the walker of this dog. She works as a dog walker and walks many dogs from the building the owner lived in. Sebastian spent time with all kinds of dogs. He is playful and tolerant with the dogs. Finder stated he is house-trained and growls when petted or gets excited. He does a happy growl. Finder stated he knows commands like sit, stay, come, and others. No signs of aggression were ever displayed while under the care of finder.

Sebastian tolerated all handling. He ate treats from my hand and sat on command. NO signs of aggression were displayed during the intake procedure.

SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/30/2016
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture, happy growls. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth, happy growls.

Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed, happy growls
Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold, body a bit stiff, relinquished easily when returning to kennel
Summary: Play growling throughout, eyes and body remained consistently soft, tail fast wagging. We cannot be certain if any other behavior is suppressed as a result of the shelter environment; force-free, reward based training is advised.
PLAYGROUP:
11/1: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Sebastian greets politely, then wanders.

During his initial medical exam Sebastian was a little tense but allowed handling.
