WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Scrappy and I can agree on one thing….getting older isn’t fun. Aches and pains, weight gain, difficulty walking, and cloudy eyes are just some of the injustices of old age. I kept looking at Scrappy in his kennel, snoozing away on a soft round bed, tongue hanging out and looking relaxed. When it was time for a walk he needed a bit of coaxing and he reminded me of my grandmother who took several tries before finally being able to get up out of her chair. Once outside Scrappy took care of his business immediately, and he followed my voice as I guided him across the street. We walked for a bit and then he sat down….’I’m done’, he said. He enjoyed some treats, walked a few more steps and again proclaimed, ‘I’m done’. So, I lifted him up, tucked him under my arm and returned him to his kennel where a clean soft bed and plenty of fresh water were waiting for him. He settled down gently, drank some water and went back to sleep. He’s a sweet, gentle, old man who loves being pet, still enjoys a treat and making friends. Yes, he has limits, but making friends and snuggling aren’t among them.
