A volunteer writes: Scooby dooby doooooo! Meet Scooby once and you’ll be singing this handsome boy’s praises far and wide in no time flat. He’s got the looks, the love and the light touch of a proven family dog, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more glowing resume–Scooby gets along smashingly with absolutely everyone! Friendly and outgoing, he meets strangers of any species with polite good manners, and we’re told he played well with dogs large and small, kids of all ages, and even a cat. His reaction to the 3-month-old baby of the house was respectful and gentle, and it’s noted that he actually licked her toes! Can we get an awwww for this sweet boy? Scooby is a great leash walker who pulls slightly to meet four-legged friends, and he takes care of all his business promptly, too. We’re told he knows commands for sit, down, and high five, and though he isn’t ready to show them off for me just yet, he takes his ‘reward’ treats softly, and happily shares a chew stick while tolerating all manner of petting, hugging and selfie-taking during our photo shoot. Scooby may be a well-behaved guy, but he’s no couch potato, and he savors getting into a game of fetch or joining his family on meandering walks through the park each day just like any other young dog. Truly, his only ‘flaw’ is that he adores people so much he feels anxious when they leave him alone for too long, so a busy family who spends lots of quality time together would be his dream come true–Scooby’s fantastic social skills need their daily workout just as much as his handsome bod! Easy to handle and easy to love, he aced his behavior assessment, and I guarantee that if you give him a chance, he’ll make a great addition to your very own ‘Scooby gang’. The only mystery left to solve is why this gorgeous guy is still waiting for the loving home he deserves. Visit our Manhattan Care Center, open up your heart, and the truth will soon be revealed–Scooby Doo was the perfect family pet all along!

They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: Scooby Doo has been selective during introductions to dogs in the care center. He has been tolerant of very brief approach and play. He offers strong correction when uncomfortable with forward greeting or more exuberant styles of play. The behavior department recommends allowing Scooby Doo an initial period of decompression outside the care center. Follow up introductions should be conducted at a very slow pace to polite dogs. The previous owner of Scooby Doo describes him as “exuberantly playful” around dogs he has met in the past. INTAKE BEHAVIOR Upon intake, Scooby Doo allowed handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/9/17 During his initial medical exam, Scooby Doo was active, tense, and resisted handling.
ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Scooby Doo so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
