A Volunteer Wrote: This melt-your-heart sweet boy is so cute that while we were hanging in the hallway every single person who passed stopped to say some version of “what a cutie!” Oh, is he ever! Sawyer lived with two male dogs before he found himself here, one of whom, Huckleberry, is in the kennel next to him, and they can’t get enough of each other!) While Sawyer must miss having a home and buddies desperately, he is a lemons-into-lemonade kind of guy and has turned the shelter into a good-time place to be with his cheerful, adorable demeanor. While he never stops wagging his tail and is enthusiastic about every person passing by and every dog who nears him, he never, ever jumps or displays anything other than perfect manners. He takes treats so gently, appears house trained, and is going to make his future humans very, very delighted to share their home with him! Please, don’t let it be too far in the future for him.
01/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sawyer walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Sawyer was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor. He took the toy away with a soft body language. Sawyer did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, ears back, open mouth. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: Sawyer greets politely and eventually engages in bouts of play with the intent to mount a playful female.
01/13/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Sawyer offers polite greeting to female dogs, and has engaged in bouts of play with the intent to mount. He has not yet been introduced off leash to a male dog. Sawyer arrived into the care center with two other male dogs from the same household, but any in-home behaviors regarding them are unknown. Based on the observations made while in our care, the behavior department recommends a pre adoption interaction for Sawyer before placement into a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs, Sawyer offers brief polite greeting, then attempts to mount the female greeter dog. When the female greeter moves away, Sawyer becomes frustrated and a bit vocal when unable to mount. 1/14: Sawyer greets politely and eventually engages in bouts of play with the intent to mount a playful female.
