MAY 2016

A volunteer writes:
Sassy is as sassy does? Not in the case of this quiet little snowflake! Unlike your average teenager, our Sassy doesn’t throw shade or back talk and all she really wants is to enjoy a few treats, play a little ball and spend lots of quality time with her favorite peeps. It took a few days for her to settle in but yesterday I finally got to meet the joyful family pet described in her intake notes, a shy and gentle girl who lived in relaxed harmony with small kids aged from 2-5 and was always happy to share her toys or food. We’re told Sassy is house trained (sure looks that way!), well behaved when left alone (check out her spotless kennel!), knows sit, stay and put it down (so clever!) and is even chilled out when taking a bath. She loves to play, especially tug-o-war, and always preferred to be in the same room as the rest of the family, a loving and loyal girl until the day the moving truck arrived and her people left for a new house while she took a trip to the Care Center instead. Side-by-side bench snuggles, gentle treat snuffling and ever-so-soft face sniffing are all part of the complete Sassy package and a date with her is an absolute delight. Though she was walked twice daily, Sassy does need a refresher course in keeping a comfortable pace but she’s so responsive to my voice that with a bit of positive training I’ve no doubt she’ll be strolling like a lady in no time. She’s had no experience in doggie socializing but passes other pups nicely in the hall and the street and while a bit nervous at first introduction, after a few minutes hanging out she quickly softened to a new four-legged friend off-leash too. If you’re looking for a loving young beauty to complete your family circle then why not try Sassy on for size? She’s already spayed and ready to head for home as soon as you are!
PROFILE :
Basic Information
Sassy is an approximately 1 y male Am Pit bull mix. She is being surrendered her owner is moving. He was given to the owner by a family member as a gift, he has never taken her to a vet.
Socialization
Around strangers, Sassy is somewhat shy around new people. She has lived a household with children between the ages of 2 year old to 5years old, she is relaxed and playful with them and other adults in the home. She has never lived with other dog and when outside she barks at other dogs. The owner has never had cats so the owner does not know how Sassy s is around them. The owner states that Sassy has never bite another person or animal before.
Behavior
Sassy is not bothered when you take her food bowl, treat, or toy away, by thunder storms or fireworks. When an unfamiliar person approaches the home or a family member she barks at them and may try to lung at the person. Sassy does not mind being bathed but has never had her nails trimmed.
For a new family to know
The owner describes Sassy as playful, affectionate and friendly with a high activity level Sassy’s favorite activity is to play tug of war with the owner. Around the house, she follows everyone around and prefers to be in the same room as the rest of the family. She has toys and loves to play with balls and rope toys. He sleeps mostly indoors with on a dog bed on the floor of the bedroom room. Sassy was being fed Pedigree brand dry dog food 3 times a day. Sassy is house trained, and goes to the bathroom on grass outside the house. When left alone Sassy is well behaved in the home.  Sassy also knows the commands for “sit” “put it down” and “stay”. For exercise Sassy is to walks outside twice a day.
Behavior during the intake
During the intake, Sassy was relaxed with soft body. Sassy allowed to be scanned (negative), photographed, collar and placed the dog in the kennel.
Group: When off leash with other dogs, Sassy greets with a slightly tense body, however loosens up after a few minutes when approached by the greeter once more.

JUNE 2016:   Another volunteer writes/updates:   With a coat as soft as velvet, and shy, sweet eyes that are welcoming and soft,   Sassy has earned the title of ‘Corporate Helper Dog’,  introducing herself and the Care Center to corporate volunteers.  She quickly won the hearts of a corporate group who loved playing ball with her, loved petting her soft coat and loved her easy going tail wag.   Sweet shy Sassy was gentle with all, tried to figure out how to keep two tennis balls in play, and snuggled in for some petting when it was offered.  Not only is Sassy a rockstar with the Corporate groups, she’s been engaging with both males and females in play group.   She’s an awesome little girl with an important job here, but her most important job awaits with you – that of a beloved and cherished companion to her new family.
