08/24/17 16:40 Sasha is 11 year old un alterd female Large dog breed. She came to her family as a gift and was surrendered due to the owner having personal Problems. She has a large Mammary Tumor and has no other known health issues and injures and has no vet history. Around strangers Sasha is friendly and outgoing. She has been around a 9 year old child and is relaxed and gentle. Around other dogs Sasha was playful and is gentle, and she has no bite history. Sasha isn’t bothered when some touches her food bowl and loves baths. She is friendly when strangers approach her home. She was friendly, affectionate and playful with a high activity level. She loves play with rope toys and che bones, she is feed dry and table food twice a day. Sasha is house trianed and uses grass and cement. she has never been crate trained and known how to sit and gives paw. Sasha goes on brisk walks on and off leash and stays by your side. Upon intake Sasha was friendly and allowed the counselor to collar and take photos.

SAFER ASSESSMENT: 8/29/17 Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is tense and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is down, body tense, and mouth closed, ears back, lip licks. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, bit distracted. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: During the handling assessment Sasha was fearful; though tolerant of handling with a slow approach. She was a bit uncomfortable with paw squeeze, but otherwise shows good coping skills, even when uncomfortable. PLAYGROUP: When off leash at the Care Center, Sasha greets a group of calm males and female dogs with a soft body. She explores her surroundings, mostly keeping to herself. She appropriately corrects a male when he attempts to mount her. According to Sasha’s previous owner, Sasha is gentle and playful around other dogs. The Behavior Department recommends that Sasha be placed in a home with resident dogs that match her calm demeanor. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 8/24/17 Upon intake Sasha was friendly and allowed the counselor to collar and take photos. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/24/17 During the initial examination Sasha was a bit nervous, and tense but allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Her previous owner describes Sasha as an energetic, enthusiastic dog. Sasha displayed low energy and movement throughout assessment. Sasha will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the (behaviors outlined below). _X_No children (under 13)- While Sasha showed no issues with children in the home, she has shown a number of warning and distance-increasing behaviors to different handling triggers. Due to these behaviors we recommend an experienced adopter and an adult-only home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful-Sasha was timid throughout the assessment and did not readily approach or maintain any proximity to the assessor. She was tolerant of handling but needed considerable coaxing to position, and did not seem to warm up to the assessor during the assessment. She was curious and would approach to sniff, but moved away whenever the assessor tried to initiate contact. She also avoided even gentle petting on the back. She also showed some noise sensitivity, startling when she heard loud noises outside the room.

The Behavior Department recommends that Sasha be placed in a home with resident dogs that match her calm demeanor. 8/25: Sasha greets a novel male with a soft body. She explores her surroundings, mostly keeping to herself. 8/26- 8/30: In a group of calm males and female dogs, Sasha keeps to herself while exploring the yard. She appropriately corrects another dog, when he attempts to mount her.
