04/07/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I first saw our fun and beautiful Sasha romping with other dogs in group and having the best time. I had to wait to meet her and the wait was so worthwhile. Sasha is stunning, her tail wags, she has a fabulous ear to ear grin and her squarish nose suggests some boxer in her lineage way back when. Whatever breeds she is a mix of, she’s captured the best of all as she’s beautiful, intelligent, snuggly, playful, alert, curious and it’s worth repeating, snuggly. She loves to give kisses, paws on my chest, tail wagging, and when she comes up for air her smile is radiant. Sasha has that one ear up, one ear down look that’s fun and funky and adds a certain something something to her great look. Showing off her ‘sit’, she takes her reward treat gently and her beautiful amber eyes smile her thank you. If I’m not quick enough with the treat Sasha gives me a quick woof to remind me she’s waiting – as if I could forget!!! Our behavior team was impressed enough with Miss Sasha to advise that she will do well in a home with average dog experience. She’ll make a wonderful addition to your family so stop by to meet her today.
Another volunteer writes: We used to think some really great dogs had great smiles. But now that we have seen Sasha smile, we feel we’ve never seen one before. Dazzling, delightful, this ebullient, warm, tender-hearted girl truly smiles. And when she gets really excited, she does a kind of tap dance. In other words, she’s insanely cute. Her walking log comments read, repetitively, “sweet!” “sweet!” “sweet!” Her dearness is contagious, prompting a passer-by to stop and say, “Wow–she is so sweet!” How many times can this smiling girl be described the same way before someone gets the hint….come get her, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sasha pulls a bit on the leash. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Sasha was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She was not interested in toys. Sasha did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1: No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Sasha greets politely. She becomes bouncy and engages in soft play with the greeter.
03/31/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Sasha is social and polite. She often will intensify her play based on the energy level of the dogs she is engaging with, ie she becomes mouthy and drivey with dogs that are exuberant. Sasha arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. She has displayed varying playstyles and behaviors, so the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction to ensure the resident dog is comfortable with her playstyle. When off leash with other dogs, Sasha greets politely. She becomes bouncy and engages in soft play with the greeter. 4/1 update: Sasha bounces around to solicit play and will run along side of the dog she is engaging with. 4/2 update: Sasha is uncomfortable in the rain and does not engage with the other dogs. 4/6 update: Sasha runs alongside the other dogs while engaging in chase play. She offers correction for overly exuberant play. 4/7 update: Sasha engages in running play with males and females. She exhibits herding behaviors when engaging and will drive the other dogs around by pushing them from behind and nipping at their back legs.
