However she managed to relax after the dog was removed from the lobby.
03/28/2016 WEB MEMO
03/28/16 16:33 A staff member writes: Sasha very much enjoys the company of her human friends! When called by name, Sasha will bounce like a bunny towards you and just when you think you are about to get tackled by her love, Sasha is super polite! She stops right in front of you and sits down with a big, goofy smile waiting to be showered with attention. Sasha also enjoys playing with toys and she only needs you to throw the ball once! She will chase it and then throw up in the air to play by herself. Once she is all tuckered out she will lie down, back legs sticking out like a frog, toy next to her. What a perfect polaroid moment! This girl is waiting for her fur-ever friend in Brooklyn!
03/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sasha came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Sasha was friendly and affectionate but she becomes tense, growl and lunge at other dogs on site of the care center. She did allow all handling once she was calm. During SAFER Sasha came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and playful towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Sasha was easily aroused, mouths the leash but quickly de-escalates once the game ends during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Sasha was easy to handle when engaged with the item. When on leash to greet other dogs, Sasha approached the gate with a stiff body and an audible growl. Due to this she was muzzled before interacting with the helper dog. Sasha was very focused on the muzzle but did briefly stop pawing at it to sniff the helper dog but froze and tensed her body. Due to some concerns with dog-dog interaction the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter and we recommend no other animals in the house hold. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog gets easily aroused, mouths the leash but quickly de-escalates once the game ends. Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. 3/28 update: Since intake Sasha has been observed to be reactive toward other dogs in her kennel, in playgroup, and on leash walks. She tenses up, lunges, hard barks and growls when dogs are nearby. A kennel environment is unlikely to allow her to thrive. We recommend that Sasha move into a stable home environment quickly, with adopters prepared to safely and positively address this behavior toward other dogs.
