04/07/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Yes, Sasha is 15 years old, and yes, she looks it. But put her on a leash and something weird happens, like that old movie Cocoon in which a group of elderly people magically un-age. This dog has energy! She is spritely! She actually…wait for it…pulls on the leash! We giggled and then ultimately trotted with her down the block because–why not? It’s very sad to think that Sasha has ended up in a shelter at this point in her life, but we’re focusing on the bright side, which is that her time here is oh-so-limited because here you come to adopt her!
04/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sasha came into our center on 4/6/2016. It is reported she has lived with a child the past 7 years, tolerant, allowing child to touch body, face, and tail. Owner reports Sasha isn’t bothered if anyone touches her Food while she is eating. She is reportedly housetrained to use wee wee pads. She is described as affectionate, calm, and people oriented. Sasha was calm upon entering Safer Assessment room. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, nervous. Sasha stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, mouth quivering. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft. Sasha lip licked on first Squeeze attempt, but did not pull her paw back. She pulled her paw back on second Squeeze. Sasha showed minimal interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports she enjoys playing with her toy bone. She did not approach the helper dog. The Behavior Team feels Sasha would do best with an Experienced adopter. She may benefit initially from a slow approach/slow introduction. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is a bit tense and nervous; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, mouth quivering, lip long Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1: 2. Dog does not pull paw back, lip lick Squeeze 2: 2. Dog pulls back paw Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs, then walks away. Dog – dog 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog.
