06/19/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/19/16 11:45 Saoirse (pronounced Sur Sha, meaning “Freedom” in Irish/Scottish A1078065 is a young chunky monkey spayed female light yellow brindle and white APBT mix who was brought in after being found tied up on a street in the Bronx near the finder’s job. The finder stated she was friendly and allowed them to untie her and walk her to their car, they also stated she seems to know/understand certain commands as when they told her to “sit” and or “come” she would. During intake Saoirse allowed all handling. She allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of. When approached Saoirse will wag her tail and stand on her hind legs to hug you and to try to kiss you (she will if you let her). Saoirse then walked calmly along my side and went into the kennel on her own when asked.

06/25/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Saoirse will give her best smile the day she will leave us for a new life and a new owner or family. A freedom smile that will acknowledge her given name, Saoirse, which is the Irish for freedom. Saoirse was found as a stray, a well cared for dame, elegantly dressed and very healthy looking. She walks like a hound, nose down, sniffing her way through, tail up and quite busy…. She does her business on the way. She meets other dogs uneventfully, big and small and does not chase the pigeons. She shows her true feelings free in the yard. A bit reserved with the camera at times, checking my bag carefully or testing the water in the swimming pool. She loves treats for which she most often jumps but also sits on command. The happy split then, appears on her face (it is sometimes so big that her open mouth looks like a huge triangle) and her eyes sparkle. She beams when we are joined in the pen by her favorite staff. Her tail starts to wag vigorously. She immediately hops on the bench for unstoppable kisses and hugs. Talk about being reserved…..Saoirse, our “Mona Lisa” did very well on her behavioral evaluation. She is a pretty, sociable, super friendly, affectionate and well mannered young lady who will make an awesome forever best friend if you choose to take her home with you. Saoirse is at the Manhattan Care Center..dreaming to be yours.

07/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
7/9 SAFER update: During her stay at the care center Saoirse has begun to deteriorate and exhibit stereotypic behaviors, i.e. chasing and barking at shadows/lights. She also has become reactive in her kennel to both dogs and unfamiliar people and is not easily distracted once she begins barking. Although Saoirse remains social with both dogs and people outside of her kennel and is still fit for an average adopter, it is in her best interest to leave the care center as quickly as possible. 6/21 SAFER: Saoirse (pronounced Sur Sha) came into our center after a member of the public found her as a stray. During intake, she allowed all handling, wagging tail. She walked nicely into kennel when asked. Saoirse walked nicely on leash for her relief walk, no pulling. She held gaze for three full seconds during Look item. Saoirse stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, mouth closed, ears back, body soft. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, a bit playful towards the end. Saoirse gently pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. She showed minimal interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs, Saoirse allows brief greeting, then corrects when greeting lingers. Otherwise, she ignores and sits in one spot. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, mouth closed, ears back Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, a bit playful towards end of game Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, then walks away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Saoirse allows brief greeting, then corrects when greeting lingers. Otherwise, she ignores and sits in one spot.

06/20/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Saoirse was initially more reserved, but has begun to show more interest in solicitng play. Saoirse is still learning how to politely solicit play from other dogs who are not interested. The behavior team feels that a pre-adoption interaction would be most appropriate to determine compatability between Saoirse and a resident dog. She arrived as a stray, so her behavior with dogs outside the shelter is unknown. 6/20: When off leash with other dogs, Saoirse allows brief greeting, then corrects when greeting lingers. Otherwise, she ignores and sits in one spot. 6/21: Saoirse keeps to herself and ignores other dogs. 6/22: Saoirse greets other calm dogs briefly. 6/23: Saoirse greets politely. She offers correction for mounting. 6/24 update: Saoirse greets briefly then hops onto the bench to sit. She corrects mounting and becomes aroused when interacting with a submissive male–she begins to mount and vocalize, eventually needing to be removed from the pen. 6/26: Saoirse becomes aroused when soliciting play, and continues to solicit from dogs who are uncomfortable. 6/28: Saoirse briefly solicits, but when not reciprocated, wanders off. 7/7: Saoirse greets other dogs, then wanders around. 7/8 update: Saoirse engages in some play but is content to watch the other dogs engage as she sits on the bench.
