08/30/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Alert, curious, calm, sweet, super affectionate and a joy to spend time with — that’s how I’d sum up Miss Sandy. She’s petite, nicely groomed, seems to be housetrained, LOVES TO SNUGGLE, leans in for petting, takes treats gently, and when I tethered her to go photograph another dog she waited so patiently for my return, quietly watching what I was doing. Wagging her tail at all the activity in the park, she quietly observes it all, although when a squirrel passes by she softly pulls towards it. Playful and nicely behaved during her behavior assessment, our team feels she’ll do well in a home with average dog experience. Petite, sweet, gentle and cuddly…she has it all going for her except a home, and that’s where you come in. Meet her today!
08/28/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jade was found as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. She was friendly upon intake and during her initial medical exam. Jade walked well on leash for her relief walk, no pulling. She was friendly, soft and sociable upon entering the SAFER assessment room. Jade jumped up lightly and mouthed without pressure upon positioning for tactile portions of the SAFER assessment, but was easily redirected. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands during Look item, tail wag. Jade leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, mouth open. She became playful towards end of Tag game, jumping up and mouthing lightly. Jade mouthed assessor’s hand during both Squeeze attempts, no pressure. She kept a firm playful grip on Toy, body not stiff. When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Jade is initially tense, then engages in pushy play, and mounts the greeter dog during. The Behavior Team feels Jade would do well with an Average adopter. She may benefit from obedience classes to learn no mouthing or jumping. Any other resident dogs should have an in depth interaction before considering adoption. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jumps on Assessor once play begins, mouths no pressure. Squeeze 1/ 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy 2. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip, not stiff Dog-dog: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Jade is initially tense, then engages in pushy play, and mounts the greeter dog during.
08/27/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Jade is initially tense, then engages in pushy play, and mounts the greeter dog during. She arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how her behavior will translate into a home setting. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction to ensure compatibility with any resident dogs.
